Convention!
Debated over FOGcon for a while, but ultimately (and fairly last-minute-ly) decided to go. I took BART the first day, and got only a little lost on my way there, and found that my bags were very heavy. I got registered and saw people and made sure to introduce myself using my real name, thankyouverymuch, to the member of the concom who might have accidentally used a different name through not knowing any better. The panels were delightful, and I saw
rising and friend, and Seanan and entourage were there of course, and there was dinner with
rising and friend and friend had many interesting stories about travel and being a pyro, plus how soup is a warm internal hug, and her hug had tentacles, and then later
cme and friend were there, and it was all lovely and I had to hustle back to the train station while I was still happy to be talking.
Then Saturday, first I was asleep and then I was worried about stuff and thinking maybe I shouldn't even go, but eventually I did pry myself out the door and I went and I decided I was going to stay the night. So I was able to park my bags in my room and went to a panel where Seanan was angry and also hilarious, and then chilled in the consuite and talked workplace gossip with someone who had been an intern in the what turned out to have been the same class as Dudebro Designer (the one who wasn't allowed to release the patch with Christmas lights) which was before my time, and then people showed up and there was a lot of great chatter, both serious and non-serious, and of course
cme's friend knows Kimmiebeth too because everyone does, and then later I went down and there was what amounted to a mini panel on awkward and hilarious coming out stories over the timechange in the lobby bar. Sleep was hard to come by, but eventually I did.
And then Sunday I was able to pry myself up and awake in time to check out, so I did that, and then I got lunch and there was an incidental discussion involving the next table over where I managed to remember pretty closely the year that OkCupid launched with the quizzes and all, and then there were more panels, and of course by this time my crocheting project was coming along nicely, and there was the wrap-up panel and then there was more wrap-up in the consuite with the attempt to make sure that as many leftovers as possible were eaten, and of course it turns out that
rising's friend was acquainted with Mr. Zune from college because they were pyros together (there were zillions of guys with that first name, like three with that skin and hair combination, but then I found a photo online and yeah she knew that face), and then consuite was closed and everybody went home, or at least somewhere that wasn't there.
And I slept.
Next year should be awesome.

But Seanan has this amazing way of finding the ridiculous side of the most horrible things and poking at them. It was great. And I slipped in late and the person at the door warned me about the topic.

But I do want to go to FOGcon next year, because it sounds awesome, and I could *travel* instead of dealing with a hotel room and packing clothes and all that hassle. (I mean geeze. BART does go to Walnut Creek, and it doesn't go to almost any of the other conventions I want to attend.)
