Shenanigans, and also blood.

I have handed off Indexing to Purple, as I think this will be a great introduction to Seanan for him. He's already been introduced to Mira's writing.

For some reason, Purple said "Hello Mudder hello Fadder" at lunch, followed by "I love that song." I brightened, and informed him that one of my very favorite literary formats was the non-reassuring letter home. He was briefly baffled, so I started composing: "Dear Mama: Don't worry, we're all mostly safe now, and the doctor says that the worst of the injuries will be healed up in a couple weeks." He brightened in his turn, and we spent a while trying to yes-and each other's allusions to horrible events past and arguably ongoing. "I like the way your brain works." "Likewise." We beamed at each other.

Did I say that my team now knows where we're going? We know where we're going. (Mostly.) There was a very hurried scramble yesterday, when my grandmanager suddenly told us that we knew where we were going and that we should get our input for where we want to sit turned in to him in less than two hours. I figured out what I wanted, then ran for the printer so he could play with post-its as promised. He only sat three people in the same desk in his first round of alterations from the initial version of the final draft. This was an encouraging sign, by which I mean that he may yet not be automatically burned in effigy by people frustrated with his particular scatterbrained-but-at-least-I-have-magic-markers methods of organization.

Purple's team has also been given their marching orders, and it turns out that both our departments are likely to be moved over the same weekend. I've been added to the distribution list that's responsible for the uncanny coordination of Purple's various ex-teammates and friends showing up for lunch at the same time.

http://xkcd.com/1357/ It turns out that some people go "oh, ew" to the mention of Terms of Service type people. When it's explained that some sites have terms of service that resemble "is it not illegal? is it not spam? sure, whatever." these same people beam with delight. Heeee.

No further spider shenanigans today, though Purple did tell a tale involving an intrepid salesman and his fresh-from-the-basement father, in which the spider dangling from his dad's nose was the cherry on top of the whole alarming look.

I labeled and hefted some boxes into my Overlady's office, which made my cube a lot less crowded. The boxes were supposed to go into the cabinets, but things happened and then we got notice of the move just as things stopped happening quite so fast. Things continue to happen. I'm not sure I approve.

Today I did wake up at ass o'clock (eight) and then instead of going back to sleep I ran errands. There was caffeine. I seem to have needed it.

Apparently the lady who sits two cubes over is a project manager; she came to me asking after information from one of Lannister's old studies. Somehow the terrible UI of the database resulted in me telling Kipper/Llama war stories with every evidence of delight. Not that many people relish the finding of terrible usability problems the way I do, it seems. (Purple: And this surprises you because...?)

I'm currently in what I would like to call the middle of a decision-making process, but realistically speaking, I think I may have already decided unless something acts to un-decide me. [personal profile] zarhooie has been incorriging me.

The compare-and-contrast childhood experiences thing continues to be uncanny. It's not that there's anything necessarily wrong with having had various things happen, it's that it's rare or at least not much talked about. I am heartened that it is a frank back-and-forth exchange rather than one person talking a lot while the other person goes "there, there". Some of the things aren't great, but they're things that happened that we can take in stride, you know?

Tonight I was really close to step count and therefore hit the bouncy-ball. This appears to have set off a vigorous menstrual event. So there I was bouncing away, trying to get as many bounces (step-equivalent) as possible before midnight, although in the rolling stats that isn't terribly different than getting a good chunk after to start the day, it just pleases me better. And somewhere in there I felt the vaguely cool sensation that means there's something that would be better out of the reproductive system than in, so I sort of gave it a bit of a push while I was bouncing down (not really a hard push, you understand, but it wanted to be out) and then suddenly there was this ball of liquid basically that had come out and was busy soaking whatever it could hit. So I popped off to the bathroom wondering if I'd managed to mistake my vagina for my urethra, but the overnight pad which I sort of have to wear at almost all times other than overnight because PCOS (actual overnight is a sewn-in washcloth because I'm at home and I can change underpants) was bright red, and I fished out a really substantial chunk of blood clot, and I saw a much larger one in the toilet before I flushed it. And I have backup protection for tonight, because damn.

The Seanan Party, and also the Eurovision Party, are the weekend before a certain offsite that I don't have to go to, ha-ha. The Maker Faire is the weekend after. For certain introverts, it is going to be an exhilarating but draining hell-week with sleep-sucking social bookends. We'll see as the time draws near.

But they are so terrible. :D
(I swear I still have that progress bar somewhere...)

Just.

Unless of course you have used the site in another browser and are counting on that button, you know, existing.
