I hear a lot more than it would be apparent, even over the roar of the vacuum cleaner. I've always been sensitive to people discussing me in my absence, or when they think I'm not listening, and when my relations with the person who said, "How rude" or "that's rude" or whatever it was, are strained already, then I get pissed off and slam doors and really would rather not talk to the person in question for quite some time.

It'll blow over, I'm sure, but when someone's merely a friendly acquaintance type friend rather than someone who speaks the same language of the heart, my default is to never speak to them again.
