receiving end of a rant... lucky you.

My editor, having a whole bunch of fire ants down his pants, is proceeding to rant at me about wussiness in the modern online pagan community.

Basically, in his words, "Witches are not doormats."

On his web site, he raised the issue of the case of a certain man, who'd described himself as a Wiccan (but had evidently not been following the precepts of the faith when what he'd been doing came to light) who'd been arrested and convicted for sexual abuse of young girls.

A year after the initial hoo-haa had died down, the media seems to have revived the issue -- specifically to bash witches.

My editor wrote an article of protest, stating that the times for witches to hide and say nothing about themselves were over; unless witches stood up for themselves and spoke out and made sure the media saw that they did not condone the actions of this person, and gave the media a true picture of themselves to report, then the only people controlling what went on about witches in the media would be the enemies of witches.

What happened?

He got jumped on, all over, by a variety of different people, mostly the young and insecure.

He's pissed.
I think I am too.

It's the curse of the minority groups -- the actions of every one of our members, even those who aren't really but claim to be, is held against us. Thus, if a pedophile claims to be Wiccan, all Wiccans must be pedophiles according to the popular media. Of course, this isn't true of other religious groups -- no one would say such a thing if a "Christian" happened to be a pedophile...

that means don't let your guard down. The masses are still largely plugged into the Media complex through TVs during which, their forebrains have been shown to be largely inactive (those with Monitor screens have a lot more forebrain activity going on while they'e in the saddle, but you need to be semi-affluent to have a computer at home, eh?). I call the driving force behind this phenomena, the entertainment/media complex, the Ozmog, (just cause it sounds cool) and this thing is just as dangerous to the survival of our race as the military complex now firmly ensconced in power by the Krispy Kreme (Supreme) Court has been for decades. It got us nearly nuked not so long ago, and it's been nothing but trouble for us all. The Ozmog is wreaking similar havoc on our minds, though, and I believe it will eventually have an analogous deleterious effect on our civilization, way beyond the damage already done. Just my two cents, but...

If you've ever seen the Matrix, conceive of the scene where Morpheus is telling Neo about the threat of the Agents. That's kind of what I'm telling you. The days of one man or woman getting a message out through the Ozmog are possibly very dead. The stage for a very fascistic time has been set with the Military and Media complexes very much happy with the status quo.

Only vigilence, organization and determination will carry the day. What can we do as a mass at the present time? Nothing. We, as pagans and heathens must organize on a scale equivalent to the Eco-concerns now in this country, and then lobby with and as they do in the weak-minded government currently enshrined by the Krispy Kreme Court and barely representative.

Otherwise, if you want to change the world, in Tolstoy's words, do it by changing yourself first.

Food for thought.

aye, yet we get at least one to three catholic priests

found to be pedophiles every bloody year, don't we. Has anyone compared criminal records of priests of our faith and priests of theirs in a mass statistical manner? we might have some interesting per capita assertions hiding there that might make a difference to someone somewhere in the high sea of media.
