One year

One year ago Wednesday, I went in to the hospital to get my uterus out. The biopsy was a bit weird, and the standard of care said to just take the damn thing out. They didn't think it was cancer yet, but still out.

On the way there, Teshi and I got behind a landscape truck of some kind. I can't remember the exact name but it was something like Lone Mountain, and the plate said LONE1.

I was raised on the Young Wizards books, and I know as well as anyone what you do when you meet the Lone Power. "Greetings and defiance," I said, then told Steph.

I knew that as a warning, and I was not fully surprised when the uterus was full of cancer.

It's out. I've been irradiated.

I am here beside my partner in their bed, safe and warm and secure in the knowledge that if something weird happens, they or I will notice.

It was a very, very eventful year.

It was because I was making sure I had medical clearance to *ahem* resume normal activities *ahem* with a new partner (if I got them, and once we had the chance) and then WOOPS CANCER. And then while I was recovering from the surgery, they decided that their old relationship was over. And while they were getting used to that, I got radiation! And as I was recovering from that, their ex stepped up the attempts to keep them subjugated. So then it was time to plot their escape. And execute their escape. Meanwhile, I was trying to get my sleep issues under control. And they got another partner. And we got a chance to visit in person. And they had to move again. And I decided it was time to move. And I moved. And they got their house back. And we made it habitable again. And then I moved. And here we are.

That is a lot of a year. I am very glad for you.

That'd be an alarming amount in a year even if it were all positive things, not scary medical stuff and needing to escape harmful situations. I hope you guys get at least a decade of life being weighted much more towards the peaceful/joyful side.

...whooo, yeah, an encounter with the Lone One right before surgery would have me a lil worried. On the other hand, fair warning? Which you don't always get.

I was pretty sure what it meant, but I didn't quite believe it until Teshi told me what the doctor had said. Which was why I told Steph at the time, so I'd have a witness. (Plus it was hilarious, whichever way you slice it.)

Thank you. I am so glad it's out, and I'll never have to menstruate again.

Get my uterus out was one of the best things I ever did. Eliminating the bleeding, anemia and pain made my life much better. I didn't have cancer, just fibroids, but getting them gone was heavenly.

Congrats on your one year anniversary cancer free.

Thank you. My doctors are counting that anniversary from the conclusion of the radiation (November) but I am so delighted to be rid of the gods-damned uterus and its baggage.

Congrats all around! Are things... stable-ish now?

I am going to need work that's more reliable than temping while moderately disabled. But my sleep's in a good place, my brain's in a good place (give or take work-related stress, or lack-of-work-related stress), and my partner and I are figuring out co-existence from a place of mutual caring and respect. And it looks like so long as I keep access to the meds that are working, that my health will remain stable barring anything Unfortunate happening.
