I really look forward to reading that, but this link is so good too!

Oh it is totally fine to not finish it too. I intended only curiosity/solidarity, not pressure. It can be overwhelming or disheartening thinking too much about such things, too (I know it often has been for me).

Very good point. People tend to forget (my rose-colored-glasses-sportin' self included) just how much of LJ's Golden Age was taken up with the same "Which Gilmore Girls Character Are YOU?" memes and drive-by one-liners that continue to swallow FB whole today. I think it's because back then, LJ was serving all purposes for so many of us: long-form introspection and storytelling, yes, but also the quippy hanging-out and link-drops and digital chewing gum aspects, too. And while countless social media worlds have stepped in to handle the latter, there isn't really anything taking up the mantle for the former. It's easy to gloss over the stuff that's similar to the newer platforms when the things that are different are what we're missing. That's what brought me back here recently, anyway, and nostalgic amnesia or no, I'm planning on run with it and partying like it's...well, 2004 or so.

I would like to nominate BrigaDreamwidth for Yuletide.
