Yellface the (not yet) Radioactive Wonder Cat

Dreamwidth turned 10 this year (perhaps more on that later). So will Yellface (belovedest finally got access to her microchip, and it has her actual birthday).

After the vet observed that she's underweight, we have started giving her lunch or other snacks. She's looking better and feeling better when held. She's also less frantic leading up to meals, which makes me feel somewhat guilty. I just thought that she was concerned that if she didn't remind us she wouldn't get fed, as a holdover from her rough youth.

Her thyroid levels are ... hella. Vet has prescribed meds to start, but recommends irradiating her gently. She's been accepting the meds, since we've been hiding them in cheese.

I did some of the background reading on the radiation treatment, and I'm pleased with what I've found. The fun part will be isolating her and storing the hot kitty litter until the half-life says it's cool again (not all that long, but still). She'll have radioactive drool, which is great because she drools when petted.

Oh hey, I had to nuke one of our cat's thyroids at the Feline HTC up in Shoreline. Since this is their main focus they're very professional about it and good at adjusting the dosage to get it right the first time. You don't have to store the hot kitty litter IF you get a flushable litter, and if you need somewhere to store a 5 gallon bucket of radioactive cat shit I was able to keep a bucket of it on the corner of my property for 80 days without any inconvenience before chucking it.

That's the exact place our vet recommended! Glad to have confirmation. It's going to be a little bit of a drive, heh.

Belovedest has an entire house with basement and detached garage, so I'm sure we can find a place. I appreciate the offer very much.

There's a quite good and decently priced little Greek place, One Stop Market, around the Shoreline/Edmonds/Lynnwood area if you have time (though if you're closer to Lynwood, King Tut's is *highly* recommended). The Edmonds farmer's market is also really nice, just, obviously, avoid the Lavender Experience shop downtown.
