Well, this is happening.
By the time I woke up, the good news from Georgia and the people pointing out that the best way to honor Stacy Abrams' hard work was to fund the organizers in other states, was starting to get overwhelmed by the ... stuff.
I sat down at the computer to intending to read a little before getting food, and then it was an hour later and I hadn't eaten and Belovedest was asking about the tree getting undecorated. So I finally got some food, and a mug of the nice rose tea from
krait. And then I pulled ornaments that I didn't have to stretch much for off the tree. I got pretty far on that before my back started to yell.
I did most of my terrified sobbing in 2016.
Nora called; she's far enough from everything. We cracked jokes about the unguarded coaltrucks, their incompetence at parking in a high-density area, and how the merry pranksters of antifa could be job creators for minority-owned auto body shops in occupied states with just a little silly string.
My mental refrain for the day has been variations on "Play fucked-up games, get fucked-up prizes." All of these violent white supremacist assholes have been saying, very clearly, all along, what they're standing for. The people who analyze the dynamics of domestic abusers have been saying. All along.
The genuinely good thing today was last night and personal. The cabinetry in this house seems original. That includes the built-in cutting board, which slides under the counter, over the silverware and miscellaneous drawers. The state of that cutting board is such that I have not been using it for cutting without one of the little boards. Belovedest noticed it the other week. I made a suggestion. I did some measuring, and thought about what bothered me about this board.
A little searching later, and I had presented Belovedest with a website, and the specifications of the thing I wanted.
It arrived last night! An extremely heavy package, containing a 3/4 inch corian slab in the dimensions of the wooden board, with a juice catching groove around the edge and finger-grab indentations. It's symmetrical on two axes, so it has four potential cutting surfaces to use and abuse. It's dishwasher-safe (though our dishwasher might not be Huge Slab safe). If it gets dinged up it can be sanded down.
It's lovely and it's going to make life a little better.
