Errands Monday

Had a hard time getting to sleep last night. First I tried some reading. Then I tried poetry (writing); the piece is about the figurative alumni newsletter that I'd want to send to one of the people from my youth who didn't survive. That made me cry but didn't actually get me closer to sleep. Eventually I got up, made popcorn with parmesan and read more of my bird-themed murder mystery. We're arriving at the point where the murderer is going to start putting the heroine in peril, sometime around 88%.

This morning was the next plumbing quote. In order to get city assistance, we need a range of quotes. The bell for that rang while I was barely fluttering awake and thinking about a dash to the bathroom, so I accomplished that while Belovedest was still talking to the guys, before they put their scopes down. I conked back out for another couple hours.

I was sensible to set my alarm even though I thought I'd be up, because I wasn't. Belovedest's plan was to come with me for my appointment, then get shopping done. So I got myself together, did a time-sensitive game thing while hopefully preheating the oven for frozen pizza (I could not find any pizza), grabbed two boob-shaped things of ice cream mochi out of the freezer (look, they're round, have nipples in the top, and are literally called "bubbies"), and that was breakfast. Belovedest was outside on the porch talking with a mentee.

I got all our stuff together, handed Belovedest their pocket contents, they restarted the dryer on a load of bedding that needed two goes, and we were off and away.

On the way we talked over my dream, which was an action comedy sort of in the Hot Tub Time Machine vein, except without the blatant misogyny. It was clearly inspired by the discussion of "Wife Guys", and I think it's got a coherent set of themes and we can probably pull together a plot.

I'd finished my homework last night; the new method is to make the month grid (16 squares wide, 35 squares long, comment lines at the right), open up the sleep app and fill in the total sleep time and tags, starting from today and going backward until I meet the previous entry. Then I go through the list of times and tags and highlight the numbers in their color. (Red for extremely insufficient, orangey for Technically Six Or More, yellow for under like 7.75, green for 8-ish to 10-ish, purple for more.) Only then do I start back at today's record and color in the requisite number of squares on the day's line, in the correct color, with dark grey patches for sleep delays and periods of awake, and there's a symbol for broken sleep as well. Then I highlight the tags. That makes for far less context switching, and it doesn't feel quite as tension headache in the neck.

Left-hand column is the day of the month and the color of the day of the week. Top row is reserved for the sleep color key, so start on the second row. The row between Saturday and Sunday is a repeat of some of the crucial numbers in the key, and is colored in dark grey when it's served its purpose. The day of the week is a pastel rainbow, in Zebra Mildliners. I repeat the number of the day of the week in the rightmost column before the column of notes, to keep me going correctly.

I acknowledged to my psych that it's possible that my next big mental health project is going to be tackling the Dad-related PTSD. I mentioned casually that it was not the priority earlier, because I had some amazing Shawn-related PTSD. I was able to tell him out loud about Shawn without stuttering or crying, in a pretty level tone of voice for the worst parts, and told the Can of Beans story with the usual (pre-Terrible Revelation) level of humor. (For those keeping track at home, that's Guest of the State, the way Joshling realized that I kept him out of trouble at Nerd Camp even off his meds and stuck close to me after that, how Shawn resisted being kept out of trouble, the Can of Beans story, and the short version of 1997 with Terrible Tuesday, specifically the version as told in the yellow note.)

I accidentally left my keys and water bottle in his office, and had to go back and wait for the nurse to retrieve them.

The closest Costco didn't have any available motorized shopping carts, and had at least 3 people waiting.
The closest Safeway didn't have any available either.
The new McDonald's was open, and put one wrong object in the top of the bag. Belovedest returned it.
The Safeway we'd originally considered had two motorized shopping carts available.
Belovedest picked up prescriptions.
We made a pit stop at home to put cold stuff away, refill water bottles, and regrouped a bit.
They had bacon ends at the restaurant place again! The potatoes are larger than usual.
The usual Costco had carts. Belovedest realized belatedly that we'd need a regular cart for the vinegar.

It was a beautiful evening, and we drove home with windows open.
