Have now consumed 17776
https://www.sbnation.com/a/17776-football
I was surprised by the strong Homestuck vibes I got off it. Mostly because multimedia story (n.b. I have no idea how much of the images are alt texted, and there's a LOT of image-based text, not to mention video based text) but also because unexpectedly strong emotions. (Okay, also there is a multi-part intermission.)
Yes, it's about football.
It's also about a space probe waking up from a very long dead battery and coming into a universe that bears both too much and so little in common with the universe where the battery gave up its last power.
It's also about humans, in both complexity and simplicity. As represented by football.
It's also about global flooding.
It's also about that ancient enemy, Death.
It took me the better part of the afternoon and several tissues.

There's a sequel as well, IIRC.

Right now I'm heavily in the grip of a new fandom (Prophet) and my main thought is that 17776 would kind of work as an extremely, unbelievably optimistic take on a world in which [spoiler] happened in Prophet.
