I am going to have a difficult time with my research paper. Why?

Long ago, I at some point came across the idea that I had no right to an opinion. That's what it came across as. I was not well-enough informed, and not yet with the logical tools to build one. An emotional opinion is irrelevant.

This paper is argumentative: it requires opinion. The prospect of forming an opinion terrifies me.

There's a term for that which is escaping my mind at the momment. :)

Hrm. A problem I never had. I've found that a well-stated opinion with various respectable and logical facts backing it will at the very least cause people to pause and listen.

It's the whole act of inflicting one's own opinion, however logical and sound and sane, on anyone else, that was the further issue. I was trained in what looks to have been journalistic objectivity. Now if only I can convince myself that this isn't a violation, it's just writing an editorial...
