Ooooh, shiny.

Barnes was the FA who uncrated the first PCs for these two DeVry labs in 1986. Makes me feel old, because I can remember the version of WordPerfect she was talking about...

Need my old HTML book with. Not problem!

Web page needs to be up Thursday.

I must use massive, massive comments. Including with my CSS. No prob.

Name of the program.
Programmer name.
Class group. Date. What assignment.

WHY. Because I was bored and wanted to do it? Because it creates style for my homepage?

She hates frames. Just like I do. We're going to get along very well.

(But, supposing you have BOTH default.html AND index.html?? What happens then?? [okay, I'm evil. I'm going to try it. Yep, I'm evil.])

Comment after the <HTML> tag for my happy identification bits. Whee?

Joanie no baka... we should have brought our zip disk.

If you have both default.html and index.html, then it depends on the configuration of the webserver - whichever is first in the list of 'default' pages to serve wins. (On my servers I don't even have default.html set, so it'd never be used.)

Further to this, the appropriate line in an Apache configuration is:

DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php

(This example lifted from my own httpd.conf file - it checks 'index.html', then 'index.htm', and finally, if there's no static content, it goes for 'index.php'. This makes sense for me, given that the primary uses for my web server are sharing files to the local network, and playing with PHP.)

I believe, but am too lazy to test, that this would also work when placed in a .htaccess file.

Hmm. I don't hate frames. I like frames.

For certain uses. Other times I hate them with the flaming passion of a thousand white-hot suns.

Actually, I think the best thing ever is iframes, when they're browser supported, as they combine the better part of frames' functionality with the ABILITY TO ACTUALLY SEE THE FRAGGIN' URL!!! ARGH!!!! okay, I'm done now.

This was a major issue at work, of late :)

Admittedly, many things done by iframes could also be nicely done with a table and a php script with hefty use of includes. Heeeey... that's an idea.... though I'm NOT writing that DAMN THING *agaaaaain...*

At least under Apache there's a config file where you can change what http://example.com/foo/ resolves to by default. You can give it a list of filenames and it'll go through them in order. I don't remember what the file is called. It's doesn't have to be for the whole install; you can locally override it.
