Every now and then, there are jokes that are so horribly double-edged sexist, I remember them forever.

A: Well, if men wouldn't keep telling them that this <gesture indicating 5 or 6 inches> is a foot...

Hey, that's me, too! Except either I orient myself northward (once I figure out which way that is), or I leave the map in my backpack and wait until I'm really lost to use it. Sometimes hiking around without a clue where I am is kinda fun... :)

I can generally point East on good days.
