The idea of a salad course first, before the main course, is incredibly helpful in getting small picky eaters who are not accustomed to fresh vegetables to eat same. They can see, smell, and psychically sense the mac & cheese with hot dogs waiting in the wings ... after they finish the carrots.

Carrots with ketchup.

You were so great with LF. It's got to seem as if a part of you is missing without him there all the time. I loved the picture you posted recently of him in the bath with the cat.

I think I was enough in shock, and had been quietly stepping back enough, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I did most of my "part of me is missing" when it became apparent that while his mother had room for me in the authority structure, his then soon-to-be stepdad did not. And that was a pretty vicious time.
