Bastard Operators from Dell: the cussing

Very angry. Stated what I wanted in the bluntest of terms: "A new, 40 gig or better HD sent to me, me shipping the 30gig one back, and I will install it my damn self. I have a fucking screwdriver."

Madwoman got the supervisor, after a lengthy silence where I was afraid I had broken my technician. Supervisor is escalating it.

10 gigs is not much these days, but DAMN.

To be honest, even 40 gigs isn't that much these days, either. Even for laptops.

Well, look on the bright side. At least you're not in as bad as straights as someone else I read about. They ordered a whole new system from Dell, including a snazzy LCD monitor. She was all excited when she got it because she lives in the Great White North and it takes forever, according to her, for stuff to clear customes. So, with great joy and squealing she starts unpacking. She pops open the LCD box and does it contain an LCD monitor?

No. It contains a Dell backpack.

I can top that: Dell UK sold some hapless individual a £2000 workgroup server because they needed a way to 'connect two computers together'.

What they needed was, at most, an ethernet switch.

I hope you didn't really swear at the poor call centre drone. It's not their fault and you might get 'abusive customer' on your file.

Even so - if you called me up and raged at me, even if we'd made a mistake, if you didn't calm down you'd get cut off.

Today I broke a man's spirit. By the end of the call he sounded like he was going to drive off a cliff. Angry sweary people just hit a wall of Me and it doesn't get them anything. Nice people get massive amounts of help and everyone goes out of their way to put things right. (This is particularly relevant to my job, since most people call a members-only line: if they're nice and I know that they need to, say, talk to their mobile phone network, I'll tell them. If they're not nice, they get to call the non-members line (which is a premium rate number) to get told to talk to someone else. Nevermind being a member or buying the 'premier' support products: the people that get the best service are the nice ones.)

I'd never phone up somewhere if I was so angry I couldn't control it - I'd step back until I'd chilled enough to be under control before I inflicted myself on other people.

See, to me that says that you're spending too much time and energy on your job.

That seems like a very good idea.
