immaturity, thy name is Azz.

Automatically assigned usernames that ought to be reconsidered, part many of many:

Personal name: begins with S
Family name: is/begins with Hart
Policy: first letter of personal name concatenated with full|first n>=4 of family name

Result: a username containing the string "shart", which the young folks on the internet tell us is a portmanteau describing a very undignified bodily function.

So help me, there's a co-worker who I've never had occasion to interact with, who has a username fitting this description. It's a username built from their name! They have little choice in the matter! Yet, when I see their username, it's all I can think of. Bad brain.

*looks up* Ew. Must remember for if I ever have kids; guess what my surname begins with.

We usually monitor for 'bad' usernames at work, and try to change them when new hires come in, or people are transferred to a position that requires a network account.

But then, we have some rather interesting people at work who's names gave our old provisioning system conniptions.

Tell me there's not two of them.

Are there 4 more letters after that? If so, it's... kind of apt.

Things not to label a "real Sophie's choice" in work IRC (it's logged, you could look it up): whether to use $oldfamiliardebugger which is now unsupported and takes 30 seconds to launch the test app, or $newsupporteddebugger which is missing a concise version of a frequently-used command.

Dude is completely socially inept and put all his skill points in Bluff.

I could not make it up. All I could do is sit there and stare at it. We archive logs too, but for him to worry about that being preserved forever would require having the social skills not to say it in the first place. Likewise calling him on it; disapproval whooshes over his head.

(BTW, if anyone *does* know the lldb equivalent of "bt X", I'd love to know it. In gdb that means "X levels of backtrace", in lldb it's "backtrace thread X - all 30 levels of it". When I have a frequently hit "break, backtrace, then go on, because someone is calling this at totally the wrong time" set I'd like to not have so much noise.)

Yeah, that can happen. Hopefully such a person, should they discover such a meaning, can petition for a change of user name.

My ex used to work in a place with a username policy of "first name + last initial."

They changed it for him. Apparently, Chris Taylor comes up with a combination they found inappropriate for business purposes.

I'm reminded of this: http://www.fm143.com/jokes/email-accounts-funny/

Though the first time I saw it, it was claiming to be real. I can't find that page right now though.

And that was how I got the nickname of Kreacher at my last place of work. Now, that's not precisely my name, but it was close enough for my HP-obsessed coworkers.

I ran into someone who knew me only as Kreacher last time I was on a date. That was kind of interesting to explain to said date.
