Well, that just came out of me!

So there I was in the shower, pondering over refinements to the section of the NaNo that had entitled itself "Episode 19" (no, I have no idea of the significance of the number, other than it's not early in the season); it did have its own unique title, but I'm going to gloss over that bit.

So then I sat down at the keyboard to get it in there while I drip-dried.

FOOM. Out came five hundred words of outline-and-dialogue. It turns out that taking some of the themes that are currently weighing heavily on my mind and exploring them in fictional format in ways entirely unrelated to the actual situation -- right. FOOM.

So now two more characters have joined the cast. Hi, Lake. And then Mithi decides that due to the stuff, she's going to have a little chat with someone who's been hiding right in plain sight the whole time. And another. aaaa. WHERE DO THEY ALL COME FROM.

Sometimes (actually, like this time) I sort of appreciate the way it enforces me rolling it around in my head a little before I sit down. Sometimes that is an amazing inconvenience.

The two best places for brainstorming are a) behind the wheel of the car, and b) "inna shar" (to quote a favorite fictional character who was recovering from being dead at the time).

Terrible for getting them down, but absolutely the best for getting them to show up in the first place.

I once got hit by a poem while on the highway. I wound up singing the thing to myself, over and over, adding lines as they came, until I got home and could write them down. It was invigorating but I could live without a repeat performance.

As a friend of mine once told me, "Just because they live in your head doesn't mean they aren't real."

I love it when characters just show up like that.
