Laundry has been accomplished. This includes actually hanging up the tops and skirts. I'm impressed with myself.

There is coffee in the refrigerator. I'm attempting to cold-brew. We'll see how that goes.

I have polished my nails. This time I used black, then a glitter with big silver chunks, little light blue bits, and a sort of blue jelly liquid. Then the top coat. Once the weird edge spills come off in the shower, I might take a picture.

The nail polish has shattered and is peeling.

Tuesday had some heavy conversation in the late evening. It turned out that something fairly random at work rebooted my brain straight into some really bad state from October. I walloped it a bit, and then Purple cheered me up some too. I thanked him again tonight, and made sure that he knew that in the excessively unlikely event that he should see me in a worse state, that wasn't something that he was expected to deal with, and should call someone. That kicked off a moderately deep and meta conversation.

Naturally it didn't stay that deep for excessively long, because the concept of attempting to get to sleep while there are two people over in the next bed and one of them is giggling ensued. We unleashed a veritable staircase of witticisms; I won with "I'm trying to sleep! Can you make your penis a little less funny?"

Not being a one to waste a line like that, I started tweeting. "It's going in a book?" "... Yes. And we know just the one, too! Aww hell, I didn't know there was a third part!"

The discussion of how Home Movies from the Cutting-Room Floor has suddenly evolved a third part, Freshman Year, was tabled in favor of the "we" bit. While I'm almost solely Azz these days, and all right with that, we're still formally incorporated as a Collective. And sometimes we use language to that effect, especially when speaking of something which binds the whole Collective.

But Cutting-Room Floor! I knew as soon as I asked the question, who is who is speaking here and to whom, that the answer was: Beatrice was talking to Ben, who was bonking her roommate Sarah at college. So now they have freshman year at college in addition to senior year and summer camp. And Sarah and Beatrice are roommates. Ben and Beatrice are not dating. Ben and Sarah are dating. I am going to have to change Ben or Beatrice's name one or the other. I realized when I showed people and they expected a Much Ado About Nothing remake and that Ben and Beatrice would get together, but they won't. It would be unfair of me to give the readers that expectation, so as much as those have been their names they can't keep them long-term, not unless I do justice to the play. I don't really think it's possible for me to do that properly. Except that now Beatrice's little sister is named Claudia. She just up and claimed the name. Oh dear. And Harriet is clearly Hero. Shit.

But the thing that I was wrestling with half an hour ago before I got into the shower, was that while a camp -> school structure worked all right originally, a camp -> school -> ?? -> school structure does not work so well. So then I thought, all right, what if I flipped it? What if it's senior year, one last fling at camp, and then college? AND SUDDENLY IT STARTED MAKING SENSE IN THE SHOWER.

Beatrice doesn't get the gigantic bombshell of the school problem after camp. That's what sets the book off. She has just come *home* from camp (the previous year) and BAM, her mother hits her with the bad news. So Beatrice goes into the book with the problem of, what am I going to do with this new school, oh my god, and then we get the white jeans moment, maybe, for her introduction to [soon to be formerly] Ben? And the great thing about the original conceit is that there are a few things which are structural, but each embarrassing thing only has to be in line with the themes which surround it. So we have to get something about Claudia's propensity for violence and Claudia's opinions on smoking before we get Claudia vs. the movers, but we don't need a whole summer camp's worth of foreshadowing, we can just go for it. And we can spend an entire school year, now, building up how much of a terror Harry can be when allowed, and then we can have the flagpole incident (my eternal gratitude to both Harvey Danger and Jerry Spinelli) to kick off summer. It could be the end-of-year dance. There's no need for it to be a camp dance. We can have something else terrible at the camp dance. Then we can have Hero be Harriet throughout camp.

And then we get to various shenanigans with soon-to-be-former-Ben's sex life, and Sarah's feelings about all this, which frankly is much less difficult to write about when it's high school seniors and post-seniors rather than sophomores or juniors.

And we get the utter lunacy when everybody comes home from college, the dreadful relatives come to stay at the same point (because they were going to take over Beatrice's room, but then here she comes home from college, oh yes), and Claudia and Harriet are confronting the possibility of going off to different colleges, and it's all going to be a mess and they'll be hair trigger OH BOYYYYYYYYYYY WOW.

There's still going to be an accusation of cheating. It just won't be on a relationship. Harriet? Cheat on the SAT? :-P (well, maybe; I'll probably think of something better.)

*rummages around in name drawer*

Okay. He who was formerly named Ben can be Jack. Sarah can be Margaret. That leaves Beatrice as Beatrice, and what's-his-ass can become Benjamin.

I hate when the awesome glitter polish bubbles up and flakes off after like an hour.

I am lazy and generally just plop the glitter on. As I did on monday (?) night. Now I am left with random shards of blue sparkes on both thumbs and middle fingers.
