OMG, Fire of Love is a perfect wild rose. So happy. It was an extra from
synecdochic in the combined shipping for the Gaiman/Metamorphosis circle, and her taste is impeccable. It's not quiiiite a match for the original formula Evelyn Rose, but it's close enough to make me think it might be. The wets mismatch, but on me the tail end of Evelyn Rose smells like the beginning of Fire of Love. Which is kind of awesome.
I have been tidying all day. I have not yet done actual laundry, but I did do some laundry prep, which totally counts. Also, pulling out stuff from places results in finding more laundry, and dusting results in making laundry. So.
I think I need some more of the side-panel stacking plastic totes, and some more of those wire shelves.
Dependencies for tomorrow!
First, clear the area in front of the computer table so vacuuming can happen.
At an appropriate hour, vacuum.
After vacuuming, set up the wire shelves.
Before setting up the wire shelves, get the wire shelves.
After setting up the wire shelves, put things on them.
Drawers and little plastic bins for storing stuff by my desk.
Got a bin with bags and such. Got a bin with shoes and such. Yay, me!
The current laundry situation is less dire. I popped down to the nearby laundry room. No card machine. I meandered hopefully over to the damaged laundry room, which was still closed. I looked at it dejectedly. Some kind neighbors mentioned that it was still closed, but that I should go to the office, where they are quietly giving out $20 laundry cards due to the laundry room situation. So I did! The guy said that the laundry room should be operational within the week. So that sounds all right.
Various tidying efforts continue apace. I always seem to get more housework done when I light candles, in part because if the candle's lit, I can't just go and take a nap without putting out the candle, and it seems silly to not have the candle going for a decent amount of time rather than putting it out just so I can take a nap. I also tried to get a bit more caught up on podcasts. A little more floor space also meant that I could grab the exercise ball and hit my numbers while weeding my inbox a bit, even though today is Saturday.
One of the random bits out of yesterday included one of the moments when I needed to express symbolic violence at Purple. (Once upon a time, Purple had joked with some friends about "the giant black rubber dildo named Thor hidden under your bed." Instead of the hilarious laughter he was expecting, he got the vivid fuchsia face of something hitting unexpectedly close to home. Which was even more hilarious.) So I leaned over and said "Reaching under the bed and grabbing Thor," and shook my empty hand at him as if holding a club. That resulted in laughter and a high-five. R: "Do I want to know?" Purple and me simultaneously: "NO."
Universal sysadmin stories: you know how it is when you have people you used to be super close to years ago, and they have stuff on your server, because of course, you were super close at the time. In the interim, life has happened. You really never talk these days, even though you always mean to. But every time your server goes down, you do have a bit of a chat...
This bit of slang was new to me over the past six months or so, thus I share:
"Consider the optics" = this looks bad.
"Consider the optics of the situation" = this looks super bad.

I asked when he first told the tale. He did not. So I sent some informational links.
