Science fiction flying dreams
Involved AIs exiled for incompetence, secret backups, costume changes, parties of Listees, and hostile AIs trying to take over. And of course love and determination.
Our AI was kicked out of the station that was the Alaska library with all the rooms, and got involved in some kind of shipping operation that led to the station that was the mall with all the beige insides and angular art style architecture and decorations. Two reincarnated BFFs were striving to become acquainted and together, because their bond transcended space, time, and death. One of them was this AI, who had been resurrected from a backup. The party was going strong. Everyone was happy to see the AI, who had been a Miles on the List. But the antagonistic AI who had been posing as a friend started interfering, in ways that would start bringing station enforcement down on them. As the BFF was looking for a costume and checking out the effects of dye-tights, the antagonist dropped just a pinprick dot of red dye as a taunt. Our good AI was trying extremely hard to learn the cryptic and contradictory social rules while relearning how to pilot a mech. This signaled an imminent battle. I had to replay this part at least twice. We took a stealthy backup before the fight.
There was a sequence with the backup trying to regain control of the ship before having a radio conversation with a distant aunt and going to that galaxy. The hidden backups (both small and on transparent glass, the size of a wood match,) saved the day.
