Practical lighting
We have kind of extended the kitchen into the dining room, and the table that used to be The Dining Room Table is a snack counter, with beverage storage underneath.
I asked Belovedest to help me organize the table yesterday, and they did! It was extremely helpful. My contribution was largely identifying objects and where they should live. Partway through, as they were sorting juices and sodas, I made a realization. The task would be much better with adequate lighting!
(We draw a veil over the process of installing the tiny little push puck light from IKEA.)
So now the underside of the table is lit up! Adequately! It will absolutely aid in sorting things, and figuring out whether what anyone wants to drink is currently in stock. And joining the other little signs there (juice, tea, pop) is now a little sign saying "Lux" in hand-drawn brush script (yellow with a gold edge) and an arrow pointing down, with a yellow center, glowing outward through orange, red, purple, and increasingly pale blues. With some glow-in-the-dark nail polish on top for good measure.
This means there will be less groping about under the table to figure out exactly where we left that goddamn little puck.

Regarding orientations and such, I choose to think of them as buttons on a hat/bag/jacket/whatever, rather than single pigeonholes or soup cans.
