THIS IS NOT A THING I AM DOING IT IS TO GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD.

As [personal profile] cleverthylacine knows Cassie from Old Fandom Days, and I've read and enjoyed the Mortal Instruments books, we sort of had to go see the movie. We had fun!

(My Infamous Cousin read the first Mortal Instruments book, and the first Twilight book, and found them of comparable genre and quality. He did revise the estimate somewhat upon exposure to the rest of the Twilight series. I found that Twilight is best enjoyed with friends and popcorn and quoting aloud of some of the purplest phrases.)

I conclude, from the movie: My Mortal Instruments OTP is now unshakably Izzy/Flamethrower. Accept no substitutes. Best & hottest chemistry by far.

About halfway through the movie, there's a shot of the New York skyline. Now, my exposure to TV is limited, and thus my main exposure to (real or fictional) New York City skyline is in fact How I Met Your Mother. And I found myself looking for and not seeing the GNB tower.

(Head, meet desk.)

Naturally, over coffee and on our way home, I commenced figuring out where exactly the various HIMYM characters would fit into a Mortal Instruments\HIMYM fusion.

I AM NOT FUCKING WRITING THIS. )

Ill-advised crossovers

Letters I have sent:

My dear sir,

Sadly, I do not know enough about either of these to do the fusion justice, but I just spent about five minutes laughing helplessly over an Avengers + Trigun fusion where Vash the Stampede is Iron Man.

No sane insurance company in that or *any* universe ... !

I remain,
yours truly,

Non-lethal pressure point gun, cyberpunk

From my comments in [livejournal.com profile] little_details here:

If you've got a gun that has a very advanced targeting system, that can pick out the pressure point, and extrapolate from the target's prior movements where they're going to be, relative to each other, in the next second that it takes the bullet to get there, you've got some pretty nice accuracy.

And if you've got a sufficiently smart soft polymer, with speed-sensing and proximity-sensing and material-I-am-going-to-hit-into sensing, you have something that can figure out how much force it is going to have when it hits the thing it's headed for, and what kind of damage the target is going to take.

If you have a sufficiently nano-biddable soft polymer, you have something that can be various firmnesses upon impact, depending on the above factors.

Of course, something like that might be hopelessly old-fashioned by the time the technology to make it happens develops.

Fun Stuff

http://www.brainporn.org/ljmood/ -- LJ Mood Ring, nifty little widget. *eyes people*

http://community.livejournal.com/little_details/1917953.html -- in which I plot non-lethal futuristic targeted pressure point weapons. (Anyone doing cyberpunk? This gun is dying for a home.)

http://synecdochic.livejournal.com/223350.html -- So what are the fandom flamewar topics? (List for a con panel.)

Laundry has been Done. In the meantime, I have whacked away at my inbox, and done some serious good stuff there. Hooray, me. And in my absence, IRC has probably done crazy, crazy things. Poked at some older comments in [livejournal.com profile] suggestions that were in need of either answering or action; still need to do some more there. Maybe tomorrow? Though I am to be packing.

Never could get the hang of Thursdays.

It's a high-technology suspense thriller! The gutted remains of the laptops that one household takes in are found scattered around the apartment complex! OMG MUST SEND VAMPIRE TO INVESTIGATE!

Cellphone working again, yay.

Whee best friend yay. Whee, whiny-cat. Whee, laptops in the middle of living room floor half-assembled. Whee, parking lot cookout at work.

Life is good.

More fanfiction -- why is this stuff in my head?

[livejournal.com profile] wolfieboy mentioned over in a post of [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's something about how, with the well-written villains, you could turn the story around and have it work the other way -- the villain of the old story would be the hero of the new, and so on and so forth.

I mentioned there that I'd told the Little Fayoumis the Tragedy of Anakin Skywalker (before the release of Episode III, I might add) and the Tragedy of Konstantine Bothari (a topic that was mentioned onList years ago).

And then I suddenly had Bothari in my head, wanting his story told. The diction is familiar to the readers of the Russian fairy tales. And then the demons started speaking up. The angels will be starting to talk next, I think.

Bothari's a complex man for someone so allegedly simple.

The challenge is going to be describing all the complexities in simple vocabulary, both to illustrate Bothari's limited intelligence and to keep the story within the reading range of a kid the Little Fayoumis's age. Additionally, I want to artificially limit Bothari's vocabulary to exclude words that would take the story out of PG-13 range. I want to describe all the gruesome things that happen to him in such a way so that younger readers wouldn't be too horribly disturbed, yet make sure it's disturbing enough to have the desired effect on adult readers.

We'll see how it goes.

Dreams

Dreamed about being part of a fire squad, and going into a library, and getting a fire emergency call that was some genetically engineered cross between killer bees and butterbugs and piskies (the type that probably catch on fire), and having to clear the whole place out. There was a Q around, one who was trying to distract me from my mission by stopping time to get it on with me. I made it very clear to him that even though he could stop time, now was neither the time nor the place for him to get busy with me, and he wasn't a bondmate to boot.

There was stuff with driving around on complicated roads trying to find the right place, and that was weird.

Figment was in the dream. I'm not sure if it was actually him or a construct of my mind representing him. (I'm so very glad that Naomi's getting along with him now. She's really quiet when she comes out around strangers. She's really quiet in general, except when she's hyper. She wasn't hyper this time. I am wondering if everyone's going to go triphasic on me. )

I was trying to give proof of age to get into this club. I was 29, evidently. It was similar to the place in a past dream that was cross between a bookstore and Purgatory, or something like that.
