The Fashion Police strike again

Writing note: Michael's shirt choice is deliberate. There was a general howl of laughter when I described him. (Michael is first seen wearing a yellow plaid shirt unbuttoned over a disreputable Slackware t-shirt, and then gets referred to by "the nasty mustard plaid shirt".) That outfit is a combination of Geekboy Stereotypes, enough so that a collection of non-geek ladies can recognize it.

And purple is the hot new color for guys. Ones who can pull it off, that is. Lavender plaid is a bold fashion choice for many, but some people can pull it off. The one dude's eye-searing striped 800080, DDA0DD, and ADFF2F shirt is fashionably Wrong. It looks absolutely dreadful, but he has the whole blatantly outrageous thing going, and can pull it off.

J has a habit of wearing either plaid shirts (when it is cooler) or what we have dubbed his "Hawkeye Pierce" tropical print shirts (when it is warmer), over T-Shirts with either most-of-you-won't-get-it sayings or logos for alcoholic beverages and Alternative Hangouts. Occasionally, those undershirts have consisted of tie-dye colouring.

This had much influence on my early campaign to snag him, lo those 7 years past. I am a firm believer in the fashion assessment technique for spotting high IQs. So far, I haven't been wrong.

*grin* It's kind of easy to play 'spot the geekboy' once you know the fashion tricks.

I was eyeing the guy with the long hair in a braid and MegaTokyo t-shirt in Trader Joe's this evening.

I so understand. The combination of a "fuck colour schemes" overshirt and a t-shirt with obscure references or quotes on it and my knees get weak.

...obscure historical references or quotes in dead languages, and I am a goner.

I get the good kind of heebilie-jeebilies when I see a guy who dresses in the classic goth style (black and leather, nothing screaming "I was so expensive" except maybe the leather) without acting all O I Am Goffer Than U OMGZ.

Mike is a protagonist.

Mike is currently wearing slightly-battered black jeans and the t-shirt that came free with his router.

Mike only breaks out the plaid if he's at a job that requires Business Casual. His current position does not.
