Ev has been informed that she is Not Allowed to ever name a child of hers Weedlord Bonerhitler. She informed me that she would not be reproducing by traditional means, and might adopt a teenager online when the time came, as did her fishmum before her. I told her that in that case, an online fishchild of hers might be permitted that name on special occasions (for example, if "helping" a printer that ought not to have been hooked up to the internet without a filter), but must under no circumstances use that as a regular everyday name.
I learned that when working with a data set consisting of a series of items that are grouped in ordered subsets of up to N, and you want the change between the items of the subset in order, and your tool is Excel, here is how you do it:
You make sure that no extraneous data is in the set. You ask Excel to sort first by subset, and then by the ordering item within the subset. You then build the formula subtracting, say, A2-A1, on row 2, ignoring row 1 for the moment. You fill the relevant column (let's call it column B) down. You copy column B, and then paste special back into column B, keeping the values and not the other stuff. Then you slap on a sort, so only the first items in the subset series show. Then you clear all the visible stuff out of column B. Then you unfilter and verify.
Ta-da!
Regarding yesterday's fun (another department poked something in a way that fucked up large parts of Thursday), the Alpha Intern has now seen me in "I am smiling at you but I may be up for some ass-kicking" mode, quiet voice and all. I IMed her to explain that it totally wasn't her, it was them.
Red wine and coca-cola are a very unique combination.
