Marriage vs. Government

I was out shopping the other day, and the radio in the store featured an Elton John song. As the song ended, the DJ mentioned that Elton John would be getting married on the 21st to his partner of however many years. The reason for the delay was that this would be the first point they could get married. The overwhelming tone of the announcement was not "O! Scandal!" but a light bit of fluffy patter with a "Well, it's about time!" undertone.

I have a thought to protest the US national feet-dragging on this point to declare that I'm not getting married under US law to anyone until I could marry a man or a woman in the same way, called the same thing, but somehow I think that would go over rather badly with a certain bondmate should he ever decide to get together with me.

Alas, that perfectly good political fussbudget action points are quelled by the inherently conservative nature of the bondmate I'm courting.

- Yes, most forms of political protest are very much like a toddler throwing a tantrum.
- Government is NOT like an adult parent who Knows What's Best. Government is like the officious six-year-old told off to keep the four-year-old entertained and not in immediate physical danger while Mummy and Daddy haul the groceries in.
- The US Government is more like an officious five-year-old.
- From what I've heard in the assorted media, Saddam Hussein's government in Iraq was like the two-year-old throwing a MONSTER tantrum and walloping a stunned four-year-old.
