Following the decline and unplugging of the Sengled hub, the IFTTT integrations I'd been using for weather and rough Twitter monitoring went down.

I use the strip light under the mantlepiece to tell me things about the weather (too hot, too damp, overnight freeze, SNOW!!, and now a caution about the UV index which doubles as a prompt to go outdoors under the appropriate amount of muffling fabrics and enjoy the sunshine) and the lamp next to my desk to tell me whether I've tweeted more recently (white) or whether someone has tweeted at me more recently (blue). The twitter alert is largely for times when I'm doing something else and not looking at my phone/that part of my phone, so I have information about whether I should go and look at it.

Belovedest did some stuff with the fireplace strip, which has been fun, and recently reminded me that I should get an API key so they can work with my deskside lamp. So the other day I did! (The category I applied for was the one that's figuring out the API, because that covers what I need for personal use here.)

After a little trial and error, I am pleased to report that the light next to my desk lights up white and blue pretty much the same way it used to. IFTTT had a delay of up to fifteen minutes; this has a delay of up to 5.

J from our writing group is moving! She just bought a condo. She borrowed a digital camera from her dad to get photos of the furniture she's selling (it's in good condition, but she doesn't want to move it, and it doesn't match the rest of her stuff) but she's not a technology person. So she needed one good geek.

I came over and helped her out. The end result was a flyer she can post around her apartment complex, and an ad on Craigslist. Phoenix-local people: Two stripey Southwestern-style couches, used & sturdy, and a hand-made coffee table. Price negotiable.

I got the coat tree (not pictured, but I'll snap it eventually myself) in exchange for working on this with her. Something so simple from a tech-savvy person's viewpoint, and yet so complex from the viewpoint of someone who doesn't know which end's up on most tech stuff...

I finally got to meet her dog, Ziggy. Ziggy is a medium-small pale gold lab, very friendly and wagging and shedding. He reminds me of Fern. Very licky as well. She finally fenced him out of the bedroom-partition while we worked on the stuff.
