offline for a couple days. Daze. Now I'm drunk.

A few things of personal note. Getting better with the walkthroughs. Getting saner all around. This is a good thing. Didn't know I could sober up that fast. Glass of red wine and two hours later, still mostly sober though singing drunk.

Marshmallow fluff for fudge, tomorrow, and summer sausage and mushrooms and milk.

Take the How Old Are You? Quiz.

youre a baby boomer. the late fifties and sixties caught you in your prime. in your youth, the beatles had every spot on the top ten, and drugs were key. now most of your generation are burnouts with 2.3 children, 9-5 jobs that make you suicidal, and adulterous spouses. have a nice day.

Nah... but wait. Job... yeah... eech. If I have to work there another day I swear I'll hurt something, and I hope it's then. No kids of my own. Votania can't see me with a kid yet. Not married. Anymore. Never did the paperwork in any case. Adam and I have a long time ahead of us, possibly. No marriage though.

Seems that the months when I had to be there in the mornings for Darkside were hard on my body; it's now accepting only the proper amount of sleep, and making me stagger around drunkenly if I try to resurrect myself before proper time.

Been doing some small work on my novel while at work, mostly plot and character mapping, some good lines of dialog or situations. The role of parenthood when mothers are potentially technologically obsolete; the role of parenthood in the information age. Every generation must choose the things that are most important for themselves. But with role models like these, how are today's youth going to know what to choose?

"Tell her... tell her I've gone to bring her father back home."

Of course, these make little sense if you've never read the book. 430 pages and counting. 430 pages plus edits minus things that must be snipped. The whole first section needs to go independent; needs to take the scissors and run.

That's odd. [livejournal.com profile] ras_sinister mentions that a friend of him thinks that you can't get laid if you wear a trenchcoat.

Something about trenchcoats on men, especially black trenchcoats, is inherently attractive to me. Given guy in trenchcoat and his twin brother out of a trenchcoat, I'll pick the one who's got the trenchcoat. Same thing with glasses. Most of my boyfriends have worn glasses. The "geek" look has usually gone with intelligence, almost a guarantee of it in some cases. You pick Mr. October from a pin-up magazine, and what has he got? Muscle. I don't want muscle. It's nice in its place, but I'd rather find it under a trenchcoat, hidden until you can get him out of the trenchcoat, than displayed right out in the open.

There's a bit of an air of mystery about trench coats. There's something hidden under there. Is it weaponry, a person hiding from the world, a person hiding from the cold and weather, a Really Boring Person... what? It's usually worth my while to find out, especially if it's a man with glasses and a thick book. The men who hide from the world, the ones that are worth knowing, are often really worth knowing, once you get to know them.

Adam decided to go out partying with his friend Larry the Atheist this weekend, Friday. ENKI, our former server, had been down, thanks to Adam's attempt to upgrade him with a faster processor.

Processor had been the right size to fit in the spot, but not the right power rating, or some such thing. When it was put in, ENKI went bye-bye.

ENKI sat around, mostly dead, for some weeks as Adam didn't figure out what it was immediately. My laptop was down, leaving Adam's laptop as the only local machine with a USB port.

Now, this would not be such a problem, for we had several other of Adam's computers, in working order... but the DSL modem, upon which we rely, is USB only. (Got to fix that... ) So we were without internet while Adam took his computer to school... Votania got pissed.

We finally prevailed upon Adam to get ENKI up and running again. Don't know whether it was Votania putting her foot down and saying "You will not leave this house with your computer until I get my internet set up on ENKI" or what, but he got it almost all set up.

When I came home from work yesterday, I found Adam buzzing around the house in search of the information from the ISP. We switched ISP's, because Qwest sold out to Microsoft, so now we've got Microsoft DSL, which is infinitely more complicated and less geek-friendly to set up. User-obsequious, I believe is Ron's pet phrase.

I set up the damn thing, finally, and went through two totally unnecessary password changes before finally getting connected to tech support. Chick in General Information tried to give me, when I asked for the number that my DSL modem was to dial, started giving me numbers with a (602) area code...

Got it working, though, by installing Microsoft's damnthing. Grr.

Adam filling out paperwork. Rana Dead Journal user Marxdarx and destruction130 are playing around with their deadjournals. Seems that Adam is old high school buddies with [livejournal.com profile] soju, who's over visiting.

Bitchy Witchy Week is about to start. I'm in quite the state.
