Watched anime with [livejournal.com profile] evealone and Marx and Votania last night. [livejournal.com profile] evealone brought over Bastard!!, and that was a delight.

Though I do jump whenever someone says "Dark Schneider".

Printed out ticket receipt for the trip. Two copies.

Been having trouble accessing certain websites from home. Think it may be some form of security issue. Irritating.

Today is Costume Contest Halloween-Type Celebration Thingy at DeVry today. Thus, I am dressed in Garb: the usual, nice bodice, nice skirt, chemise is getting a little faded so I should make a new one...

So far, the other people in costume are Neighbor, who is dressed up as a werewolf who's trying to keep his lupine nature hidden in the workplace (fangs...mmm), and one of the chicks from Darkside's class group, who is in cat costume and looks delightful.

I decided to get competitive and bared more cleavage... not that that'll do much to fight with the cat costume...

Some of the Student Services people are in costume too.

Damn. And I was hoping to make it to the IEEE meeting.

Toys!!

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] elynne, for yet another word-scrambling service, automating what Google can do for delightful fun!

...There was, in fact, a lot of both. One of the local SCA chicks saw my outfit and ran home to get her own.

The three finalists in the contest were a woman in a cat outfit (velvet bodysuit, thigh-high boots, tail, ears: "Puss In Boots"), a verrry pregnant girl (due next week!) in pants, a sportsbra style top... with little alien hands emerging from her belly, and fake blood clawmarks over belly. Everyone but me seemed to be disturbed by the image -- I thought it was adorable. The third was a guy in military gear, with a GI Joe. He used his toy gun to shoot up the audience. He won.

I seem to have hallucinated the IEEE meeting. Ah well.

Headachey

It's been a very surreal-feeling day. I had science class in the morning, then sat with Darkside and chatted for a while, then computer lab, then costume contest, then sat with Ron and Skippy, then ate lunch with the FA chick (the one I was talking to a few days ago). Neighbor showed up.

I invited the FA chick to hang out sometime, and gave her contact information.

Now I'm in the lab. I'm still spacey and a little headachey. I'm suspecting I need more water; I'll refill my water bottle before I head to class.

After that, I'm going home. I seem to have more money in my account than I thought I had, which is going to be a Good Thing as far as keeping stuff happening nicely is concerned.

Randoming.

Jumping around on random. Not finding much. Did find one readable person, but wasn't especially interested.

Is it too much to ask that people write their journals in some recognizable form of a language? Journals obviously in another language don't bother me; it would be a delight to read another language, but that's not somewhere I'm going to be any time soon. It's great that there are people all over on the 'Net, and it's not just a spoiled-ass rich US thing, but...

For whatever reason, though, journals in some bastardization of under-educated high-school slacker/AOL junkie quasi-English bother me. Not the journals that are riddled with misspellings because the writer doesn't know how to spell, but the journals that spell every word phonetically, and add in numerals and little cutesy anime faces because it's "kewwliez" to do so. There's only so much cute and hip I can handle at once; anything that is overwhelmingly "Kwaiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!1!!!!!!!!!" is not for me.

The occasional salting an otherwise normal-English or technical-English journal with a popular [the spelling version of neologism] doesn't bother me; it's used for effect. I have no problem with people who speak in the thickest local dialect there is, and construct their phrases according to the rules of same. I just have trouble with alternative spelling rules.

I don't know why it bothers me so very much, but it does.

I don't, of course, leave comments to the effect of "j00 sux0rs!" in the journals I come across. I just alt + <- out of there and move on. It's not my place to correct your spelling if I've come out of nowhere into your journal. Nor is it my place to correct your spelling if that's the way you spell, and you're not asking for spelling help, or teaching my nephew how to spell. However, it's not my place to be reading your journal if you choose not to spell in your best approximation of the language that I read. If you spell cutely, rather than sensibly, don't expect me to add you back.

Dagger got to talk to Darkside today. Discussed with him that I'd talked over some of the danger signs with Votania and Marx, and that we'd been OK this weekend except for Friday night, when we'd needed Votania to sit with us late until we could fall asleep safely.

Told Darkside that she usually brings herself under control if they threaten to call him. She listens to him, and doesn't want to disturb his sleep...

Told him also that Garnet and I had basically had a heated debate over me spending more time with him. She wants time with him, but I do too, and since she gets most of the time with him, I get to get some too now and then.

It's hard to stay out long. There's an odd pressure in the left side of our mind where Garnet is, when she's trying to break free and take back over again. She's used to being in control.

He was amused that Garnet and I were having jealousy-fights over him.

Amusing little incident tonight.

Votania and I both have the computers under protection. I got a Bad Feeling at a certain sudden pop-up screen, and it continued to get worse. It was perhaps overreacting to pull plugs (power and phone) at that moment, but better safe than sorry. Managed to cut off Marx, who'd been calling at that moment...

After Enki was re-started, I went through things and poked nose. Something called commonname.com had installed a happy browser search plugin, something I wasn't happy with having there. The cordless phone was a bit out of commission, not surprising, as I'd unplugged the phone cords with a strong charge of "Disconnect!" in my hands.

I cleared it all off Enki, discovered that the phone cord was in fact still unplugged, smudged the living room and especially the computers with the local smudge stick (juniper? Didn't smell like sage.) , and declared the place clear in the Names of Enki-the-hacker-god and Raven, Freer of Information & Technology.

Everything works quite happily now.

Interesting, that my intrusion-sense is now that sharp.
