Desks!

"Maybe we can get you a desk that doesn't wobble," Belovedest observed, sometime during an earlier bit of the Time of Isolation.

I allowed as how this would be good, and kept my eye on the free shit section of the Craigslists.

Various things came and went, and it was only this past Thursday that I saw a thing that made me take notice, and when I inquired after it, it was still available. We made arrangements for me to pick it up Friday night. Since there were two desks, I didn't think we could fit both inside a little SUV like mine. Charmingly, Belovedest and I have a nearly matched set, so we worked out a time when we could both get there.

Friday afternoon, I went over to Ev's (along the way) to see what I could do for her treasured baby quilt.

We showed up, backed up to get the desks loaded in, then zoomed off to refuel before going the rest of the way home. We detoured for dinner, and wound up doing drive-through in Belovedest's car, then split up again for the final leg of the drive home.

We were sticking pretty well together on the road until I started hydroplaning a little. Belovedest's lane was better, and they overtook me then, and arrived home ahead of me.

I was all knots at that point.

Saturday was a wash.

Today we put the desks in. That involved doing the measuring, figuring out a configuration, moving my computer, moving stuff, moving furniture, moving art, arguing with the kitchen door, arguing with the dining room door, arguing with the Decoy Cup, placing the extremely heavy desks, and eventually loading it back up and getting my computer running again. I unleashed the Data Vacuum.

We also needed to clean the oven, and so we started that as well. It didn't reek as badly as the last time (when we destroyed the rack pads) but it still wasn't good. That knocked me out of commission for a while.

But my desk is set back up now, I've found some places for some of the miscellaneous items, my keyboard is shielded from cats again, and life is good.

Tonight [personal profile] alexseanchai decided to test the ladies' tolerance for each other, and let Escape Calico observe Yellface while Yellface was having dinner. That went remarkably well. Escape Calico didn't say anything until Yellface turned around (having finished her bowl) and at that point started growling. At that point Alex swooped her up and carried her to her room.
