We like smoked almonds. So when I saw a Costco bag of spicy dill pickle spiced almonds, I was all for it.
They are very, extremely, in your face, don't inhale the powder, strong garlic dill pickle almonds. They have a nice cronch. I can't put more than say three at a time in my mouth because of the powder inhalation risk. I have taken to eating them as a topping to my morning bowl of cottage cheese. They're good. Belovedest prefers them over the regular smoked flavor.
I think it was Tuesday when someone in IRC speculated about savory cakes and I went looking. It is a fine French tradition! I found a recipe. I showed it proudly to house chat, and Belovedest said words to the effect of "Hmm!" and shortly thereafter there was a fine savory cake with bits of cheese, ham, and olive in it.
It was very eggy and came out damper than I think intended, possibly due to differing egg size and also 4 eggs. I gave it a bit of a broil, and topped them with slices of sausage and more cheese, and it was a good dinner and (apparently) a filling breakfast.
It was Belovedest's first cake, and I salute their increasing baking skills.
In honor of
alexseanchai's birthday, we got takeout yesterday. I got a monster burrito again, and it remains absolutely monster. I had a slice of it for dinner and I'm having a slice this morning as well. Specifying no pico de gallo hurts me in my soul, but it's a good decision for my digestive system which does not appreciate raw tomato.
