Castle Heterodyne!
Mar. 15th, 2021 12:19 pmBased on a recommendation/rant from
seperis, Belovedest has obtained and has started playing with Home Assistant. Fortunately Mondays are a late start day, because Belovedest was up until [mumble] o'clock getting it set up and starting to tweak stuff.
They've named it Castle Heterodyne, which I think is apropos.
I may need an icon.
The goal is to get the home automation under more local control, and to do Fun Things.
We have:
the slower-frequency network reserved for the home automation stuff and other untrustworthy machines, "The Faceless Old Woman"
2 modern WeMo switch-plugs (one is MIA)
2 less-modern (both unknown whereabouts)
A Broadlink remote jobbie, IR only, "Uncle Simon"
Uncle Simon has temperature and humidity sensors
4 Sengled Zigbee bulbs
1 Sengled Zigbee LED strip, which I want a diffuser channel for
various objects with remote controls, which Uncle Simon is learning about
Big TV (Screen A) (about 5 years old, heavy, 2 black lines in the lower right corner that you barely notice but why it was free)
Slightly smaller (Screen B) (no known problems but also free off Craigslist)
Screens in each bedroom
Screen downstairs
Sound bar
Roomba-Pet
A Broadlink LED strip that is incompatible with the sound bar and has been shuffled off to the bedroom
Probably more!
We want (eventually)
a humidity-sensing bathroom fan switch
to rewire the bathroom fan unit so light and fan are separate entities
An Uncle Simon for both bedrooms, eventually downstairs and the media room, maybe a separate for Sewzb0t Parlor
???
We haven't (yet) tested how any of this works while the ISP is losing its shit, but it is our hope that relatively few of these things have to call home.
