sailorjim is in search of a reporter or reporters to take a crack at a story. If someone came back from Iraq with all sorts of evidence pointing to fraud, graft, and corruption, wouldn't you be excited too?]
Politics: For those who haven't seen it: Jon Stewart's morning-after report on the Vice Presidential Hunting Trip. Nice parallels drawn there. As Clinton's philandering served as a point of commentary for his way of doing whatever the hell he wanted no matter what his political opponents thought of it, this serves as a small and stupid point of commentary on the current way of taking a position, sticking to it, even when it becomes completely ridiculous to do so.
The fact that the lawyer in question is now doing much more poorly and it still seems to be taken lightly by the VP is as close to a direct media parallel of the action in Iraq as I think we're going to get.
I don't think the current administration is adaptable.
Sex & Relationships: Apropos of the recent arrest of a man who kidnapped his wife over taking their children to the wrong church, and the subsequent digging up of a copy of a "relationship contract" he tried to pressure her to sign, some helpful distinctions for the layman or law enforcement personnel on distinguishing BDSM from abuse.
Consent, especially informed consent, is the backbone of safe/sane/consensual kinky sex. Granted there may be RP of non-consensual situations, and some of the consent may be implied rather than explicit, but it's still consensual.
Funny moments from the renfest:
Fully bald knight type in long black leather armor with silver studs. Just needs helmet & horse. And he's ... on his cellphone.
Some random guy walks up. "Let's have a staff meeting!" he says.
I place my staff by his.
"That was a good meeting," says he, about 10 seconds later. "Very productive."

Renfest happened! Spent way too late last night searching up the Garb (in the bottom drawer of a dresser, it turns out, all together, and nicely cat-haired) and ensuring that it was all still in working order. There were some bad moments with the Rack o' Doom, but tight lacing and determination and no small amount of squishing ensured that everything fit, if a bit ... perkily.
In the morning, I donned all but the topmost layers of the costume (having figured that the proper chemise would work better than a work shirt), fueled up, and drove to meet up withdustraven, trystan_laryssa, the Mad Scientist, and "Mom", the matriarch of the crew. (trystan_laryssa is the odd one out of the biological set, being Dad's Girlfriend rather than the mother of the Mad Scientist.) We geared up and set out. trystan_laryssa bumped Tartanic all the way there, which made for a soothing dose of high-volume hyperactivity.
The trip out was familiar, ingrained in my nerves as it is to make a portion of that trip to see Darkside. I twitched all over when I had to pass his exit without turning. Getting the bodice laced up was a bit of an adventure in the parking lot. No boob wound up being flashed a la Janet Jackson, however.trystan_laryssa thought the effect was simply gorgeous, and felt self-conscious beside me.

Cleaning dead songs out of iTunes. I think I got around 5 hours of sleep before my body went all "Hi, it's morning" at me. I was plotting to stay up all day as of about 2 in the morning, but 7 thinks that's a really bad idea. I'm back to 1997 in my read-through by days; I'm doing January and February, since I have some catching up to do from the beginning of the year. My body does like the 4 hours sleep 8 hours wake day-model, which is not such a great plan with the work world. Have now finished reading January and February for all the years of this journal. Not in the sort of detail I'd wanted to, like under the cut tags and in the comments, but eh.
