Sleeep.

I slept in this morning. *yawn* Yes, folks: 6:30 is now "sleeping in".

There were dreams. There were interesting, tangled dreams.

Where did my memory of them go?

Getting various of my stuff hooked up again. Webcam is now operational. This means that photos of the Lunatic may or may not be forthcoming on my website.

I plugged all my happy devices into Tigereye yesterday evening. The mouse is not, for whatever reason, operating correctly; the cradle for Inanna is working perfectly; the webcam is now operational; we'll see about the CD burner; the Zip 250 drive is up next; I have not tested the floppy to see how well it and the Zip drive play together.

Evidently you need more than just the driver for the zip drive to work. I knew that was too easy! At least this time I have the correct driver... I know this how? My computer still works!

Give him a necklace. Silver. The fact that it's a pentagram pendant there is lost in the morning indoor gloom. Give him the fluffy-blanket from the couch and get him to wrap it around himself like a cape.

Isn't he so cute?

Zip drive

Still working on it. Nothing has crashed the computer yet, but it's not showing up as something we can play with. Troubleshooting.

I followed instructions, reset my printer port from what it was to bi-directional, and now have a zip drive working. w00t.

My Zip drive is working, and so is my new CD drive. I haven't convinced the floppy that it can really truly be plugged in to the zip drive's spare port to work yet, which means that either I convince it so, or lug out the a/b switch, or just not have a floppy drive when I need two CD drives at once. I haven't tried the system with both CD drives at once, though, as the driver was on the floppy.

Still have not convinced the USB wheel mouse that it works.

Now that we have caught up on all the Boy Meets Boy for the past two months, we can work on getting the external CDRW to PLAY MY BLOODY MUSIC!!!

Somehow, when I ask the new device to play, I have to push the "play" button on it, and plug the speakers into the headphone jack. Mmmmkay.

Someday I will understand all of this. For now, it is sufficient that I have my

Yes! Yes I can!

With the happy power of the laptop that can swap its drives out while still on, I discover that I can play both R.E.M. and They Might Be Giants -- simultaneously.

Really, one should not attempt to play these songs together. I'm stopping the insanity.

Today they were doing free immunizations, and Votania told me to bring down Nephew and his paperwork, so I did. On the way, we picked up [livejournal.com profile] marxdarx, who was originally invited over to babysit while Votania and I went out with the Blonde from her work to see near-naked men. The near-naked men expedition was called off, as the Blonde can't make it, Votania's working late, and I won't go without Votania. [livejournal.com profile] marxdarx was invited over anyway.

There was the usual mad paperwork shuffle. [livejournal.com profile] votania was dragged away from work for long enough to sign the paperwork and make things kosher, and then she bustled back off again, busy as usual. Marx and Nephew played.

Amusingly, I got addressed as Mom and Marx as Dad by the ladies performing the injections. "Aunt", I corrected. No ball-and-chain for me as yet, thanks much.

They had me sit down in the chair and had Nephew sit on my lap. On our way there, I'd told him what immunizations were about: you had to get immunized now so you wouldn't get sick with some different really bad diseases later, like measles, which was a nasty way of getting sick. I told him that I had gotten immunized against one kind of influenza earlier this year. He got the concept. I held his arms gently while they cleaned the first patch on the left arm.

I told Nephew that this was going to hurt, but less than the owie on his toe. He didn't whimper with the first one, and I told him what a good job he was doing. The second one was evidently a little less fun, but he didn't make a fuss. He was none too happy about having to get two more in the right arm. I told him about how one of my friends (a kid about his age) had to get a shot of insulin every day, because she had diabetes. I told him how he was being better about getting shots than Mommy was, and even better than me, because when I'd gotten my last immunization just a few months ago, not only had I said, "Ow, that hurts", I'd used a few words I wasn't supposed to.

The lady told us that this last one, the MMR, would sting a little. There was a rather lot of liquid in the syringe, and Nephew did whimper and cry a little, quietly, as it went in. I hugged him and told him how good at this he was being, how brave, and so very much better at it than Mommy.

Orange juice and a cookie followed. There was another kid getting a shot while that was going on, and he was well-behaved as well. I pointed that out to Nephew, how the other boy was doing a good job at getting his immunization just like Nephew, and then we went off to say hello again to Mommy. Nephew was feeling better by this time, and was talking about how he was going to be strong now. I told Mommy how well he'd done, and there was general happiness.

I'm great with kids as soon as they're old enough to explain things to. I will quite likely end up with Birds and Bees duty, which, as my parents did it admirably well with me, I feel quite ready for. Guide-dog-Aunt found this delightful book explaining the process fairly well; I should ask her what the author and title are.

It's fluctuating. I'm sneezing my brains out, I'm listening to Aqua, and I'm tired. The combination is bizarre, and I need to retrieve my clothes from the dryer at some point.

I suppose I need to put on my palmtop when I do my laundry, and ... hmm. Schedule a "do laundry!" event once a week, I suppose. No sooner written than done. I love that thing.

Now.... if only one can get the zip drive working correctly so that homework done at school can be done at home too...

Finally saw Liar, Liar today. I am now officially a Jim Carrey fan.

Marx has stopped trying to figure out exactly what I see in him. I think, of everybody I know IRL, Dawn is the closest to figuring out what it is going on between us.

If the bizarre relationship drama caused me more pain than it did amusement, joy, and enlightenment, it would end. I've gotten at least that degree of control now. The relationship with Darkside, or lack thereof, has just gotten twisted around into so many other of my psychological constructs that it would be really damn interesting to untangle. I could do it; it would probably play hell with the friendship for a while. I don't want to, though. It's comfortable the way it is.

Why comfortable?

I know he will try his best not to hurt me. I'll try not to hurt him, and we'll be friends, trying not to step on each other's toes. He knows me quite well; I know him quite well. There are always the rough edges, but we mesh so very well... I don't want to do anything to upset the status quo.
