And he's the son of an English teacher.
Jul. 30th, 2004 03:50 amSo I was chatting with a certain friend of mine, he who is known in his less-than-shining moments as "Mr. Shallow", he who inspired me to chat with
vodounsi until all hours and coin the term "angstwanker" at least a year ago.
He was polishing his CV, and wanted me to run an eye over it. Although hampered by the lack of the program he'd used to create it, I nonetheless humanitarianly (note: this is only a word because I say it is) plunged in.
I raised eyebrows over several things, but chalked it up to lack of sleep (he'd been up since 8 in the morning, and it was now past midnight) when I hit what he'd done to the poor computers. I screeched aloud, careless of the hour and of sleeping roommates. "MACINTOSH'S???????????" I scream-typed to my hapless friend. "MACINTOSH'S WHAT? MACINTOSH'S ASS?"
This is why I'm such a helpful friend to run things past. Fortunately, he and I are good friends.

Connection
Jul. 30th, 2004 04:22 amDuring LiveJournal outages, the first thing to check is http://status.livejournal.org . That will have the latest official word on what's going on with everything, and, most importantly, is hosted independant of LJ so that even if LJ goes down, the status page will not. (Additionally, when the site is behaving itself, one can add
status and
lj_maintenance to one's friends page, and follow any announcements there.)
When
status has no useful information, the Support IRC channel generally has wide-awake admin-types who know what to do and who to poke in case of serious problems. The IRC channel in question can be found by Googling a few key terms, and the topic of the channel will reflect the current known status of LJ.

Awake again
Jul. 30th, 2004 10:22 am...I'd been intending to sleep until it was time to go to work. This is, clearly, Not Happening what with the necessity of getting paycheck, going shopping, and probably running other small errands.
My 5:00 am bedtime strikes again, and I'm the one getting the smackdown...
Is it bad of me to feel obliged to stay awake during LJ outages?
