azurelunatic: Azz and Ev both giving a thumbs-up, only hands, no faces. Captioned "Accidental child acquisition". (accidental child acquisition)
I went up to Kirkland to make fruitcake with Ev, and be her Designated Adult for some minor outpatient surgery.

I dropped her off, did a little shopping nearby, and came back when I got the call. They'd given her Valium in addition to the local anaesthetic.

I decided we should pick up the pain meds before they became necessary, not after.

Valium Ev has a very short attention span and less filter in sharing her thoughts with a trustworthy parent.

* She was very happy with the surgery
* She loves cheese-its
* She was so high
* I am a good friend and parent
* Does she look like something bad has happened to her? (No, she looks like she's just had surgery.)
* It takes concentration to remember which hand to hang onto the shopping cart with.
* The specific shopping items we are looking for and where to find them.
* She can't see without her glasses.
* How happy she is with the surgery
* The ice pack is no longer cold? (We have a cold one in the car.)
* She is happy with the surgery, her body, her job, her life, and her birth mom can go fuck herself

That last was only uttered the once, but with great feeling.

After getting the meds and being hushed by the pharmacist, we went home to her place. She napped and iced herself. We played with Meow Meow and I took some portraits.

We never did get around to fruitcake.

Mama shipped me my childhood/teenage/early adult book collection from Alaska! Hooray! They came via USPS Media Mail, which is very affordable for such things. Mama was one of that day's lucky 10,000, and had thought that I'd need to pick and choose in order to keep the cost down.

There are at least 9 boxes. Mama said that she weighed one and it was 40 pounds. She thought they'd be in the 30-50 range, based on that.

This is relevant, because 6 of them are stacked tidily right in the swing of the front storm door.

I have my physical strengths and weaknesses. I could *possibly* shove approximately 180 pounds of books in cardboard boxes a few inches off high-friction indoor/outdoor doormat. I outmass it, certaintly. I'm not sure, however, that the storm door would appreciate being in the middle of this Battle of Titans.

Current plan is to wait until Belovedest gets home, unless I go out around back and start shifting things.

I have registered a complaint with the post office, because if there were no back door, if any of us were more disabled than we are and can't use the back door (it's iffy for me, in fact), or if a kitchen fire broke out and we couldn't use the back door, it would be a dangerous situation.
azurelunatic: Operation 'This will most likely end badly' is a go. (end badly)
As I was taking a few pictures to try and better illustrate that the boxes were placed such that the door would not admit anything wider than the length of my foot, I was surprised by T. Bellatrix Housecat, who is considerably narrower than that measure.

Seeing her chance, she bounded through the door, behind the chair, and started snifsniffing about the lawn.

I seized up the first visible bag of cat treats and started bulling my way outward.

By the time I got the boxes variously shoved around, Escape Calico was no longer in immediate visual range, but had been in no hurry, as she was nosing at everything. I tossed some treats on the lawn. No response. A white butterfly flapped by, but (rounding the corner) she was too busy chewing a stalk of dried grass, almost to our neighbor's.

I scooped her up. She was not pleased.

[personal profile] alexseanchai was still in the shower.

I eeled back inside, as I hadn't brought my keys and the back door would be locked. We sat on the couch while I recovered my composure. "Let's all go to our rooms and do nothing," I paraphrased from the immortal I has a sweet potato and dropped her in the room and shut the door.

Not long after, Alex popped out of the shower. "Is there a reason the cat's in my room?"
