Cold!

azurelunatic: Axial tilt is the reason for the season. (Festive red & green text; diagram of Earth's axial tilt.) (axial tilt)
It's been chilly for a few days! On Monday my car displayed the fun and exciting battery symbol when I started up (having not driven it for at least a week and a half), but fortunately it disappeared after we'd driven off our cul-de-sac. And the lock has felt suspiciously stiff.

Unfortunately my nails are particularly fragile in the cold, so this is the beginning of nail polish season, I guess.

It's about time to put on my seasonal icon! I am taking down the assorted glass and ceramic and disco pumpkins, and I brought up the box with my hilarious glass trees and have deployed them. There's a re-use/upcycle program about making fabric and cloth boxes, which [personal profile] alexseanchai sent to house chat exactly while I was looking at commercial stemware storage boxes. MESSAGE RECEIVED, UNIVERSE. (The pumpkins-in-candle-lanterns look that [personal profile] norabombay suggested is super cute, and I may reload those empty lanterns with some of the excess shatterproof ornaments when the ornaments boxes come out.)

Alex had an appointment yesterday and another today; I had various calls after both. Today we managed to squeeze one errand in the time between the one thing and the other, and then I went to Costco for essentials after my therapist appointment.

(And one of the good things about this therapist -- even though we don't always talk about the deep dark weird stuff, when the deep dark weird stuff does come up in my head, I get to apply the appropriate tools. One of those tools, for me, is "Poor kiddo." Because there were a very non-zero number of things that Poor Kiddo could have used a lot more support with, and adult-me shouldn't carry the burden of shame because Poor Kiddo didn't know how to handle it.)

Anyway, I managed to shred a nail loading stuff in the car tonight, and I'd managed to split a different nail yesterday somehow. I've done a preliminary polish on the shredded nail and most of its hand, and I will probably do more tomorrow. And hunt down the larger ultraviolet semi-dome rather than the single low-powered flashlight. But I'll be able to fall over in bed without snagging that nail worse.

(I used that phrasing, "fall over in bed" with one of my oncologists, who was Very Concerned -- "now, let's talk about that fall you had the other day?!" -- and I went "wait, what, I did not have a fall" and then I ran back through things I'd said and went "Ohhhhh, I said 'fall over in bed' -- that's not actually A Fall, it's a figure of speech for throwing myself into bed in exhaustion!" And they became very less concerned.)
