Oh, the 1990s...
Dec. 5th, 2024 02:46 amI've been reading some fic set in the mid 1990s, written by kids a generation younger than me. And the time travel kids from the 1970s have just handed someone a book on parenting a traumatized child. And know how to help someone through an anxiety or panic attack.
Children, teenagers mostly didn't call it a panic attack back then. It would be "freaking out", or maybe some kind of slur about a different medical condition. Teenagers with mental health stuff that wasn't 100% under control worried about getting stuffed into some inpatient situation, generally.
I'm glad for the serious strides behavioral health has made in the intervening 30 years! It's great! My very name is cringe bordering on a slur in some areas! But oh wow, holy generation gap, Batman.
