Well, I'm at least being considered for the job. The guy I was interviewing with was younger than my mother, with pictures of kids (probably his) on his desk, polo shirt, slacks, security badge.
The job would be coordinating and preparing for presentation data on machine functionality. This company constructs some of the machines that are used in making semiconductors. They say "Intel : semiconductors :: Microsoft : software :: them : semiconductor construction machinery".
The guy is using Excel, Excel, to keep track of the information for seven categories of machines in about nine different locations, fifty or more machines of each type.
He needs me.
Since my commute would be so long if hired, they would probably issue me a laptop rather than a desktop so that I could telecommute. We have DSL. They have a VPN. I am a night owl.
Of course, there are several other people being considered for the position, but I think I caught his attention. I mentioned Livejournal to him (not by name, but the concept), which surprised him. He wanted examples of my writing and communications. I spoke of the time I got a Christian and a Pagan communicating with each other successfully within three minutes when they'd been trying to communicate with each other for two hours without success. I spoke of the disaster with Slackerprep on the business project, how we pulled it off at the eleventh hour. I used my work experience with RI to illustrate my good attitude under all circumstances.
I do have issues with focus -- I don't always know where to apply microfocus, where to macrofocus.
I try to make things I consider problems sound like they could be used as assets by the company.
It'll take about a week and a half to get a background check run through. I would have my own desk. The view is beautiful.
There was a storm as I was about to leave, blowing and spitting rain and hurling dust and lashing about those trees with the lovely blue flowers. I love those trees, those flowers. (I'm probably allergic to them.) He had me call home to check in to let them know I was on my way so I'd have someone to worry about me if I didn't show up, because some girls on campus were attacked.
Nice guy.
I am enthralled by the technology.
