California Dreaming
May. 11th, 2002 02:54 amCalled Darkside and told him what I'd done to Shrimpy. He appreciated it, very much.
We talked gaming and Star Wars for a bit.
I mentioned to him that when I'd been hanging with him in lab when he was doing his homework the other day, that he'd said that the place he wanted to go after graduation (in the homework) was California.
Evidently, first right out of school, he's going to be looking for a job that will make him enough money to live on, and give him experience points. It doesn't really matter where. California cost of living is sky-high. After getting enough experience points, he then wishes to become employed with a game company in CA.
Fair enough.
We had to get off the phone earlier than we might have because there was an incoming call, and he had to get to bed. It was my mother, telling me that some of the resources I'd needed were coming my way. Yay parents!

The Traveling Witch
May. 11th, 2002 03:39 amEver since the age of thirteen or so, I've kept a backpack prepared in case the need should arise that I should flee the house with haste. The years have gotten my packing better, with things I'll for sure need.
Some months ago, some bad things happened and we had to clear out of the house pretty damn quick, just because it felt so awful. Picture the psychic equivalent of sewer gas. This is the only time I've ever had to retreat so fast, but it helps to have something packed, just in case.
I have a backpack. It's got various things in it, including basic hygiene supplies (I need to add shampoo and soap, or maybe just soap), a change of clothes, a blanket, a towel, first aid stuff, not very perishable snacks, paper, the drops for my occasional flare-ups of swimmer's ear (not bad if I get them under control right away, but emergency-room level pain if I don't), incense, matches, and a small kit of things I might need if being called on an unplanned crisis of faith.
Needing to add: Backup athame, metal dish, reference material, water, duct tape, flashlight, mirror. Bus fare. Bus book.

I love the way I can link back to past moments that I reference here in LJ. This makes a lot of my less comprehensible entries far more comprehensible, because you don't (always) have to wonder what, exactly, it is that I'm referring to -- just click link and see.
Of course, some of the things I refer to are written in the paper journals of the past, the paper journals of now, but not online, or solely in the Book of the Flesh.
I love my writing. Vocation, avocation.

Homecoming:
May. 11th, 2002 12:36 pmVotania gets off work at ten tonight. Remind the Viking if/when he calls.
Mama wanted to know when my next break off from school was. Somewhat less than two months.
And, copy/paste from a comment:
I always used the words in place of blood, not very often tears in the water. Never brave enough or never stupid enough? You decide.
I tried to never share the razorwords, but sometimes some leaked out. I have an excellent curse for the loss of a betrayed love, written down somewhere. One of the themes of it was the concept of a sword as a gift from the betrayer; after the betrayal, it is that sword used to pierce the heart, by the hand of the betrayed.
There is a cat in my room, warm, furry, needing a bath extremely badly.

TV: Honing My Rage & Hatred
May. 11th, 2002 01:07 pmNephew wanted to watch a video. Uncle
marxdarx had the system set up for TV, with the antenna he got.
Aunt Joanie shoved the TV around and banged on things for a while, gave up, when it appeared that the coaxial cable wouldn't screw into the appropriate socket on the TV, asked
votania for help. Votania tried and cursed at the thing as well. "It would take a god to do this!"
"Wait, I am a god!" I declare. She pats me on the head and leaves for work.
I discover I've been trying to screw in the co-ax the wrong way.
Instead of unplugging the one and leaving the other plugged in, I drag out my Box Of Parts, and find the handy-dandy cable switch, which I install to make swapping out VCR for antenna for DVD player that much easier.
Nephew learns that "moron" is a word as bad as "stupid".

TV, microwave, Dungeon Siege.
May. 11th, 2002 03:27 pmNephew was watching Rolie Polie Olie and other Disney items taped by Grandma, but the introduction of Adam back into the household's ecology proved to be too much for the developing attention span when Adam settled down for another marathon session of everybody's favorite hack & slash computer pastime. After several warnings to not whistle while pissing, or, in this case, to choose which one to do, watch Adam on the computer or watch Disney, the TV was shut off and shut up without much ceremony. Lack of protest led me to wonder why I hadn't performed this bit of community service before.
Meanwhile, I satiate my cravings for sustainance with the notably diet-friendly, low-carb, low-fat, low-sodium expedient of grilled-cheese English muffins, microwaved, with dill.

More Tutoring
May. 11th, 2002 05:03 pmI used to tutor elementary school kids on letters and sounds. Nephew is receiving my highly honed professional skills.
Did I mention that he lacks an attention span sometimes? All kids that age do, so I'm not really worried about it. Besides, I'm used to handling ADHD kids of many ages.
Nephew received notice that "booty" was a rude word when used to mean something that should be shaken while dancing. He covered his ears in the classic "hear no evil" pose, which, he was informed, was also rude.
He then ran off to eat noodles... without cheese.
