I have most of the room clean. I still need to vacuum, but that's really not a task for midnight. I am consolidating several jars and bottles of lotion into one large plastic bottle, to save counter space, and use up some of the stuff that doesn't get touched often, not because it's not good, but because it's not convenient.

Now I just have to put the laundry away, and do the stack of laundry, and get the living room and kitchen to rights again...

Votania has been doing things with Red for the past while. There was drama over wreckages of diskage. I'm still not sure what happens with that computer, with that user. The installation seems to be going well at this point. Earlier today, everything was going well but for the monitor; the graphics card was not particularly installed right. Votania, it seems, has two 98 disks, one designed for that particular machine with the proper drivers, one not. She grabbed the wrong one.

Since then, things have been happening more oddly on that computer. There have been formattings, cursings, installations, partial installations, repartitionings, and I'm not entirely sure what.

Votania's been learning about computers, and what to and not to do. The things she's learning sound like a typical DeVry computer course, actually: for free at home! Wow. Only, instead of a complacent DeVry instructor who's seen it all before, she's got me, who hasn't, and instead of a placid DeVry computer that's used to letting students get away with murder (and, hopefully, resurrection like Osiris in his glory), she's got Red, who will rise like Osiris, but carry a grudge about the whole process, and instead of step-by-step lab sheets, she's got the fucking manuals and my old coursebooks, and since she hasn't needed to read them before, she doesn't have the map of where to check first already laid down in her head in case of computer emergency...

My room's almost presentable again. There are things for Darkside to catch hold of me by and twist, but they're fewer than they could be. And he's already got things like that, if he wants to tease me.

I'm too tired for coherence. It's time for sleep, and shower in the morning. Maybe no laundry as yet -- my room's nice, though. Must vacuum.

...Having the vacuum cleaner eat Shamash's rubber burger was Not A Good Omen, but the rest of the morning seems to be going well.

Darkside showed up at 6:40 or so, traffic being what it was, he planning to show up an hour early, rather than at 8 as planned. Gotta love Darkside. I guess he does like the time with me. Votania, wonderful woman, had cleaned house late last night, at my request... the living room was spotless, but for the floor, which would have been rather unneighborly to vacuum at past midnight.

So I started vacuuming.

When I vacuumed up the rubber burger, smoke started coming out of the vacuum cleaner. Not a good sign.

We'll see, later, if it'll be safe to run.

Dawn showed up about twenty after eight, with her Dave (Yep, there's a collection of them!) and we hit Denny's for breakfast. The three SF geeks geeked, and I sat there feeling just a touch odd. But it was fun.

We came back and hung out for a bit. Darkside fixed my X tape, which he'd given me, which had had a broken bit of plastic inside.

He'll come back.

Clapped and cheered for Ron when he was introduced, even though they asked us to hold our applause.

I want Rev. Sheldon to give the blessing for my graduation. He's better known as the teacher of take-it-apart-and-put-it-back-together class. I am not comfortable with people who I don't personally know and trust speaking for me in religious invocations, and I especially object to people unknown and untrusted praying in the Name of any particular deity, especially Jesus Christ.

Dawn graduated. Yay!

Darkside graduated happily, and took the rose I'd gotten him. He had a big grin. I haven't seen Dennis.

The EET class is giving their reader beer. There was one guy who had his cellphone on under his robes as he was marching in, glowing blue through the fabric. The reader puulled a little skit ehere he pulled out a phone and answered it for the guy: "He's here, but he's graduating right now, call him back in about 20 seconds."

Darkside hit me over the head with the rose.

Dawn's Dave got Darkside's graduation on tape. I gave Darkside the rose, and on the video, you can see the expression on his face after he's taken it.

I don't know if anyone's ever given him a rose before.

Darkside's father pulled me into the picture with Darkside. He pulled Dawn and her Dave in too. Darkside gave me bunny ears, evidently. Darkside's father was evidently going to have Darkside and me pose by the fountain, but Darkside was having none of that. Poor babe.

Dennis was not there. Darkside can't remember if he invited him to graduation or not; at any rate, Dennis didn't show up.

I introduced myself to Darkside's parents; his father has already seen me; I introduced myself to Darkside's mother as "the voice on the phone". Darkside had left his car by DeVry; Dawn and her Dave drove both of us back to the general area: me home, and Darkside to retrieve his car. I'd offered to have him come over and watch anime with me, but he wanted to get home before dark.

Going to be lonely. Marx, Votania, and Nephew are all spending the weekend with Grandma.

The Rose

...Before graduation, I saw the table with the people selling roses. I debated. Should I?

Would he accept it? After he accepted it, would he hold it and be good with it, or would he bonk me over the head with it?

I shared my debate with the ladies at the rose table. "He'll love it!" they assured me. "He won't bonk you over the head with it."

They don't know him, I thought to myself. I broke down and got one. Long-stemmed, single, red, rose. For Darkside. From me.

I took my question to Dawn. She had, truthfully, no idea as to whether he'd do that or not. I held the rose behind my back, and beckoned her over to whisper. Darkside was curious as to what we were talking about. She didn't tell him.

He told me, after we came together in the crowd after the graduation, that giving him the rose had been a dirty trick. (He still held it, though.) I told him about the debate, and he walloped me over the head. Roses can be surprisingly heavy, when used as a blunt object. They're at the end of that long stem, I guess, which gives them the speed when whapped through the air to the head. I dodged out of the prescribed flight plan towards the Sundome doors to let the ladies at the flower table know, "He hit me over the head with it!"

Interesting things, in there. Interesting things.

I'm happy, though, having spent the day with my best friend, been clobbered over the head by a rose, and learned that titles aside, I truly am Darkside's best friend these days.

And, from a comment I made, some thoughts on the nature of Hell and Damnation.

My personal conceptualization of Hell, in the traditional Christian sense, is the utter absense of God. This includes the utter absence of God's good works, including music, joy, love, happiness, and all the other things that make life worth the living.

I seem to recall, from one of my brief skim-throughs of the Christian Bible-thing, was the concept that those who do the works of God, even in the name of another (or no name at all), are not damned; but those who repudiate God, even in the Name of God, are risking their eternal souls.

In order to damn yourself, with that viewpoint on things, would require you to not only deny the concept of God, but to actively work against the good things that are God, and to push those out of your life, and out of others' lives, and I doubt very much that you're doing that.

After I did so, he joked a punch at me, mock-grouchily.

It melted in his pocket on the way home, though, so he didn't get to eat it.

Danger signs: if I say that I feel like drinking with the King of Elfland's daughter.

I love that phrase. So evocative. It's those seemingly harmless things that are in fact deep and dangerous and should be avoided at all costs by anyone without a manic, self-destructive bent to them... (and there I go, describing myself as the Little Admiral again. Dammit.)

I'm feeling very good right now, however; at this point, she wouldn't get that second glance.

Darkside fixed my movie for me.

I love my Darkside.

Talked on the phone with him for twenty minutes this evening. He had a passable British accent on, and we BS'ed back and forth about this and that as he hunted for the bill he was needing to pay.

I love my Darkside.

Darkside's mother does not look like my mother.

This makes me happy, as odd as it may seem.

I like it when happy randoms from my friends list IM me. I like it when happy randoms reading my journal leave comments. Happy randoms who aren't on my friends list IMing me makes it far harder for me to guess who they are, which can get odd at first.

Today Darkside wore black pants, a red button-down shirt, and his graduation gown. In the morning, he was wearing a jacket, the suit variety. He threw pillows with Nephew, though I had to call it quits for them after a smack to the mirror and a smack to the glass doors. He's really good with the boy. I like that.

Darkside sat on my bed of his own free will. It's at such a height that it's eminiently sittable, and the best seat in the house for watching the TV in my room. And it's bouncy and soft! It's the princess+pea style that involves stacking lots of mattresses up on top of each other, and that way it is expandable as more users come online. However, for single-person use, I think that this is a fairly good way to keep it.

I don't think I'll get to go to the Night of the Living Geeks tomorrow night at my classmate's house. Drat. I wouldn't have a ride, you see.

I hope [livejournal.com profile] ralmathon is having fun with the camarilla in Dallas.
