Semagic is now installed on Allegra. This is going to be much easier on me than relying on the website. As much as I love LJ, clients have it all over the actual update page on the site.

I crashed out around 8, stirred briefly at 10, then crashed some more until midnight. I hate sleeping in four-hour blocks of time, but that's what I tend to do when I'm this tired. Alas.

I need to set my tab order for Semagic the way I like it on one machine, and then copy the tab.ini file so that I'll have it, really, for all the other machines that I've got Semagic on, because OMG, the trouble that changing the tab order causes! I like the tab order to follow the visual layout, the pattern I'm looking at the screen.

There are some really cool sounds left over on this machine: there's a collection of Star Trek .wavs, and I've set up the TOS hail whistle sound for my Semagic alert. *smirk* I am such a geek.

Opened up Allegra again, on instructions from [livejournal.com profile] hachi and http://www.rigacci.org/comp/312T/disassemble/ , and re-attached the mouse cable to where it was supposed to be plugged in. I got a datachisel and finally got the right hinge cover off successfully.

I now have the mouse working again. I have the old CD drive working on it, I think -- I have a floppy drive for mnemosyne!Thalia, and a floppy for Allegra, so I got the drivers for the Acer external CDRW downloaded and installed on Allegra, so now Allegra has a CD drive again. This makes it possible for me to think about installing other things, especially the NIC that I got for it.

NIC might be working, now that I told 98 that it is supposed to know TCP/IP ...

And. OMG. Allegra lives!

Next step: installing the little ...

Woo! Online! With Allegra! New location for computermachine coming right up!

Now I can happily disassemble Mnemosyne!Thalia, put deadbrick!Thalia back together, and ship deadbrick!Thalia back to the BOfD. It'll take me a bit to get Allegra the way I want it to be for my interim machine, but it'll work. Yes indeed. It'll work.

I'm so very tired, but feeling so very satisfied with myself.

Mnemosyne!

XP is verily installed on the new HD. The installation + drive combo has been named Mnemosyne, which is potentially one of my read-only words, given that the only MN word I can reliably pronounce is "mnemonic".

...why, yes. Most of my Saturday afternoon was taken up with Finding Mnemo...

She's to be Mnemosyne no matter what machine she's actually in. So I may wind up wandering around with either Gemini-the-lappy or Allegra running Mnemosyne.

The thing with the time divided up between us is working beautifully so far. The one woman still makes me edgy. Someone new came in. Posted the latest installment of Circle of Fire to beta filter, for those who are following along; will take off the backdate when it all gets posted.

Tried to install NIC on Allegra last night. Stayed up late working on it, but failed to make it work. Did get the drivers onto the machine with the whole floppy disk thing. Will read up on how to get the machine to boot from the network, and things like that.

Dad always thought that you should have one machine for development and one machine for use, and I have to say that I agree with him on that one.

Having a bit of a tension headache. Tension and dehydration. Need more water. Yay water. Gave plasma earlier. Have killed most of my bottle of water.

I bought the tiny portable computer Allegra from [livejournal.com profile] dduane a while ago; I got it a NIC a while later. Tonight I tried installing said hardware.

It is unfortunate that the external CD drive (which is a slim model that's nonetheless about 1/4 to 1/3 the size of the actual machine) seems to not function (perhaps damaged in shipping?) and we are forced to rely on the floppy drive.

It is fortunate that I have a floppy drive (external USB) for Thalia.

It is unfortunate that I have not yet gotten the NIC to work, though it says it's installed. There look to be conflicts. Joy. NIC does not want to admit that it can use TCP/IP. It wants to use IR.

*facepalm*

Spending the night at trystan_laryssa's. Allegra is not yet retrofitted for the century of the fruitbat. Yet.

Mostly, I have been working. Read more... )

I would have developed a dreadful headache had I not snagged out a few minutes while the other supervisors were on break for a very crucial phone call. I helped assorted people out in between purring sweet nothings about the dreadful monitor session to the amused and semi-conscious ear of my best-beloved bondmate. (I picked a good bondmate, yes I did.)

Also: The long-awaited unwrapping of Allegra! The machine is tiny! I have much glee!

Announcing a new arrival to the lunatic household: Allegra, less than 11" & about 3lb. 98, I think.

A day of double blessings! First, the e-mail letting me know that Allegra's just about ready to be shipped, and the tracking number will be e-mailed later on today. Second, Rihannsu: The Empty Chair has gone to the publisher.

Can it get any better?

Woke up to the fact that I was not sure when my alarm clock was due to go off, but it was probably late. Cursed, reset clock for something workable. (This was fortunately before it became crucial.) Got dressed. Noticed that I was dizzy and disoriented. I was having difficulty staying on my feet and stringing words together in a coherent form. This was in part due to the climate control issue (I'd turned the cooling off when I came back to bed after a trip to the loo) and I was having a severe sleep hangover, in addition to whatever the hell else was wrong with me.

Stayed in and tried to tidy. There was some success. Chatted with the apartment complex resident manager about the thermostat issue, and there's a work order out to replace the damn thing.

I'd made an appointment with [livejournal.com profile] figment0 to clip his cat's claws, and he showed up to pick me up just as I was foolishly standing on a stepstool to reach my stereo. (I finally had plugged it in today.) Yay Figments saving me from myself.

It was fun spending time with him. We tried dropping by RC & D's, but they were off doing laundry.

Allegra should be shipped any time now, so ... *calculates* Um, maybe it'll show up on my "weekend"?

Fuzzy showed off photos of his new pad, so I dropped by the forums to see how things were going. Looks good. When the fuck am I going to find time for the comic, dammit?

Hoo boy, there goes the language. (Not that it wasn't gone already.) Gotta hit bed. And work later. Yay.

[livejournal.com profile] outofambit had an old machine for sale. It seems that I may have been the first one to respond with interest.

She'll most likely be shipping the computer on Thursday.

...

I'm now almost able to say this without squeaking, squealing, giggling, leaping up and down, yelping, yowling, laughing, cheering, and otherwise performing physical and vocal stunts that put me in danger of terminal fangirlishness and/or actual injury. I may have actually sprained something in my ongoing and almost entirely successful endeavor to keep said utter raving fangirlishness out of the actual correspondence. Incoherent fangirls are a dime a dozen, and slightly creepy. Cheerful and coherent correspondents are somewhat less easy to find. I'm just being me -- the spell-checked, smiling, and everyday self I am when I'm not having a very loud and somewhat disturbing fangirl moment over in the corner.

Diane Duane is as pleasant to correspond with as she is to read when published.

Yes. I was sitting on the public glee of this news until I got a chance to tell Darkside.

Tee-whee-hee!

Computers are fun. When computers intersect with fandom, that's even better.
