I am under orders to hie myself to the gynecologist, because, well, bloody hell. (Well, dripping.) Week 3 is about 2 weeks too many, essentially.

http://www.livejournal.com/manage/moodthemes.bml -- I need to get my LJ dudes over to LJ eventually.

I am more than a little unnerved by the sudden realization that I do in fact seem to be Darkside's best friend, because I am not entirely comfortable with the concept that I may be his primary face-to-face social life, and that I have been slotted into that status in the absence of daily contact with his parents. I'm accustomed to giving him first consideration when making my plans. I'm not accustomed to him requesting the pleasure of my company on more than a bimonthly basis. Or, er, a semi-yearly basis. Have I mentioned that I don't adapt well to change? I'm used to the idea that I am one of those pests that he grudgingly gives time to because it seems to be important to me. I'm a little panicked by the idea that he is so badly in need of human companionship that he is voluntarily spending time with the pest that has tailed his steps for years.
Self esteem issues, much? But the man is an acknowledged curmudgeon.

I was having shower-thoughts about Great Moments in LJ Etiquette Failure I Have Caused. It's always instructive to watch someone else fouling up, right? I may wind up posting an entry all about some of those.

A Saturday

Jun. 30th, 2007 11:50 pm
azurelunatic: Vivid pink Alaskan wild rose. (RTFM n00b)
So, how to describe today?

I got to bed at a bad hour. I woke up, without my alarm clock, at about 9am. I had made plans with [livejournal.com profile] gameboyguy13 to run some errands together, so I scraped myself together, called him, and zipped out of the apartment.

We were on our way by 10:20. The objectives: get some stuff he needed, ship it off, and then give plasma. We washed up at the grocery store, as they weren't prepared for anything but solid currency. So! Off to his bank! But which bank? He remembered the east/west street of the nearest one, and by cruising along in a direction that felt right, we wound up there. Mission accomplished, we set off for a mailing place. We were finished with that by 11:30, and headed off to give plasma.

I wasn't sure that they'd still be accepting new donors at that hour, but miraculously, they were! So I signed in, settled down with my book, and waited. The waiting room was full. I had a book, so ordinarily I would have been just fine, but I had Cramps of Definite Pain, which prevented me from enjoying the two hour wait the way I might otherwise have. I had brought several books. I wound up re-reading Losing Joe's Place (always good), and reading almost the entirety of Impulse (don't bother; the plot's good sensational enough, but the writing style is uninspired and misses in enough places to distract me from the story). (I finished Impulse at home.)

When I finally got back on the floor, I got a bit of a dodgy stick. Flow was all right at first while drawing, but on return it was high-pressuring. So instead of adjusting my needle, the lady turned down the return pump speed. That worked, but it was a v. slow return. Inevitably, when it came time to draw again, I no-flowed. Another lady adjusted my needle, and it was smooth sailing from then on.

Movies of the day there: the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie (tuned most of it out), and Surf's Up (also tuned most of it out).

[livejournal.com profile] gameboyguy13 and I finished about the same time. Amazing, given that he was a new donor today, but given that it was crowded enough that it took us 5 hours to get through ... I usually go through in 2-3 hours. Bleh. I'm glad I had enough books.

We needed food after that, so we went home. We were out of bread. [livejournal.com profile] gameboyguy13 doesn't eat his hot dogs naked, so this required a grocery run. I went horizontal near-immediately upon returning home; JD finished his hot dogs and then borrowed some floor and a pillow and did likewise. I woke up at nearly 9, realized that the laundry room at his apartment complex closes at 11, and dragged him back here, but what with feeding the starving beasts and all, he's waiting on laundry tomorrow.

Nabiki is in heat. She's been writhing on the floor and yowling and growling. I actually successfully picked her up last night, and so did JD. We didn't hold her for long, but I petted her for a while until she decided it was time to leave.

I'm probably going to get sleep early tonight. I need to call Dawn; we haven't talked much all month and it's driving me crazy. Tomorrow, maybe. I should call Darkside then too. I should also figure out what we're-all doing for the 4th, as people have days off.

OK, wow.

One of the two components of santorum is in fact lube. (There was then a discussion about whether santorum could wind up as the result of a "surprise" incident, because of the lack of opportunity for proper lubrication presented by the surprise nature of it all.

I am willing to share sleeping quarters with almost any amount of regular noise, because I grew up in effectively a two-room Alaskan house with Dad, who snores like a buzz saw and now uses a CPAP. Just, anyone sharing bed-space with me had better be OK with encountering a rock.

OMG UTERINE LINING. It's good to see you. It's unnerving to see so much of you at once.

Must dig up poor Ethan. Attempted to explain Heinlein to someone who's only read the first half of Stranger in a Strange Land. The stereotypical Heinlein Heroine is:
  • Red-headed
  • tall (optional)
  • stacked (not optional)
  • smart
  • pretty
  • good with languages
  • handy, strong, and capable
  • a great 2nd in command
  • both fertile and maternal
  • horny
  • bisexual
  • polyamorous
  • submissive to The Right Man, but in a spunky/sassy/challenging fashion
(My kinks, let me show you them. Harshaw = Gary Stu?)

The cookie defeated the spoon. Spoon-bending! Insanely cool camera! The color red! (Me wearing the color red for my interview, causing a significant disruption at work when I merely walked through an aisle!) Causing depleted appetizers to be replenished will forever be known as "re-greening" now, even if the actual colors change. One cookie is never enough.

2007 06 15

11:24
Before I left, Ecchi-chan got a phone call from a certain place where she'd submitted her resumé. The lady said she'd be e-mailing with contact information. Squee! (In related news, I have looked over my own, and today should be The Day. Me nervous.)

12:30
Yet another place where blogging has served me well -- I am used to rambling somewhat informally about any bloody thing I happen to be thinking about. I can produce immense amounts of general BS on any given issue. This is useful because right now Management is looking for braindumps from her people. I'm one of her people, and I have a brain. I'm not sure how much use she'll be able to get out of it, but if I can make someone understand the things that make me tick the way I do, I can surely share my insights on business processes, and psychology as applied to the culture of the company.

3:23
Yet another meeting yay. Nice long one with Management asking tough questions, me brainstorming, and me immediately seeing about ten other things that I can do to make things better. The rest of the people around did not seem so engaged with the meeting. Management was late. I started sketching the cabin, because I've gotten away from drawing and need to get back. Yesterday I doodled a portrait of Tay-Tay that was very her and very surreal. There was a lake in her hair somewhere.

4:20
Documentation. Hooray documentation. I don't think I'm going to be leaving particularly early tonight, in part because there are things to do, and in part because I have to put in enough hours. The two things go together; I get to find things to get done on the docs. I'm to the part where I get to dive back into the database and start pushing things around to find out what needs to be done.

It's not really all that bad; it's just that I've been out of the DB for long enough that it's not all at my mental fingertips. I like being able to know everything, and I hate having to re-learn things.

Oh, and Bitchy Witchy Week has been going on long enough, I should think. Whatever the last time was that I mentioned it? That was within the past two weeks. I hope. Drip, drip, drip. Like a leaky faucet, not like a hosepipe. I almost think that I prefer hosepipe, at least when it finishes quickly.

5:16
Oh god. There are some things you just look at and see a train wreck brewing. In this case, it's an experienced Field department and an inexperienced client interface person who is not so sure about how we handle different kinds of sample. Field thought that the client interface lady was experienced. Our mistake. Actually providing excerpts from the e-mail exchange would be stretching things too far, so I won't, but rest assured that everyone is currently reacting in polite, professional language, and it looks like it is about three e-mails from breaking down into screaming profanity and threats. Because. Wow. So very not familiar with the way these things actually work. Yeah.

5:51
Looks like it's five e-mails from profanity now. My workplace is bizarre. Oh, and JD is on the Dendarii Brewing Co. survey tonight. Hee, beer. It amuses me that young people who are too young to legally drink beer in the US can still do surveys with other people about the beer they like.

Whee documentation. It's up to lots of pages. I just shrunk it by a few pages by trimming some unnecessary stuff out of an illustration and trimming some bad whitespace, but it's still huge. Management finds it amusing that my idea of a "huge" file is 2 megabytes, and the newsletter files that Traveling Manager sends out are in the 20+ meg territory. She has a bunch of print-quality images in them, see, and they only need to be web-quality. We'll get her there someday.

6:31
Now I want to collect all my assorted meta-data into one single feed. Like, the stuff of mine on other sites, and the stuff about me: the Joule data, the Pandora data, and all that stuff. Then I can just add something new to that external aggregator, and not waste more namespace on LJ.

I seem to have moved out of the active OK I DOCUMENT NOW into the OK THESE ARE THE CHANGES I NEED TO MAKE TO THE DB TO MAKE IT FUNCTIONAL FOR EVERYONE mode. This is because the pre-upload part of the documentation is done. Glee!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6750005.stm -- heee, birdie!

7:51
And when I hear that there are problems with getting some of the daily stats off the system from where they're supposed to show up, I try and hack my homies a thingy that'll do that for them, just a little. I ♥ my peeps here, even though I'm not in Field much anymore.

Sis called last night; so did V. I called Sis back, because she was likely to be up still. She had some bad news; [livejournal.com profile] eris_raven got in a fight, savaged the other cat badly, and was put down. She's always been a violent little cuss, so I'm honestly not surprised, but it's still sad to hear.

I don't think the situation with the center is quite as dire as all that, but we're still moving. [livejournal.com profile] sol_amoun is the Counterculture guy; I ran into him while looking around for after-hours meeting spots before.

And, whee poetry slams!

Relative Locations

I have cherries. This makes me happy. I have decided that stopping by Sprouts on my way to work for some seasonal fresh fruit is the thing most likely to keep me on the healthy snacks train, even though it does lead to a lot of cherry pits around my workstation. This is what old styrofoam coffee cups are for, because there are a lot of them that wind up around the workplace.

I'm not sure if the office has issued a memo schooling the new hires on the topic of spill-resistant cuppage yet, but they do need to. I was seeing too much unprotected cock sticky beverage in the call center, and it wasn't just [livejournal.com profile] gameboyguy13, who got notified ahead of the crowd. (I am a hardass, and pick on my friends.)

10:51 AM 6/7/2007

Hooray corporate breakfast leftovers! I scored strawberries, whipped topping, and pineapple. I passed on the doughnuts, because quite honestly the fruit tastes better and is better for me. Some of my cherries may actually last until tomorrow. I like corporate breakfast meetings, because they always get too much foodz for the whole meeting, and if I don't have to attend the meeting and I get fed, everyone's happy.

My elder clone's little daughter had an appendicitis operation yesterday. She was doing well the last I heard. She was supposed to have heart surgery on the 10th, but gods know what's going to be up with that now.

11:25 AM 6/7/2007
*facepalm* My trainee said that her goddaughter called her an ID-ten-T, and she thought it was cool until someone called her out on it. I taught her what "RTFM" means.

I have figured out the optimal windowstacking for CGI:IRC at work while actually working. I have something productive in the background, the edge of the cgi:irc window with the timestamps showing, then a productive window on top of that, so I can see timestamp change activity, but the actual conversation is not right out there, and my focus is on what I'm actually working on. Working very well so far.

I definitely know the new poem that's going in my free text now. I wrote it last night and it brought the house down.

Mama's right. I am a poet. I'm just a very literary one.

I will be Out of Lipton Vanilla Caramel Truffle tea as soon as I brew and drink this last bag. I don't think I'll be replacing it any time soon, because the scent is a little too loaded to drink comfortably for a while.

Recap on My Life, such as it is:
Wednesday was Wednesday, and Wednesdays generally rock. This Wednesday had some twists and turns, but it was still a decent one all told.

Thursday was the supervisor-involved off-site company party. Read more... )

Friday involved paperwork in the morning. I did my usual paperwork out of order, as the office wasn't done with some of it yet. I finished things up, and then found myself a little at a loss for productive things to do. It was clearly time for ... THE DISK COPY PROJECT! I'd previously requisitioned a floppy drive for my shiny machine from Turbo. I employed it. The project is finished. I went home.

Friday night was painful. I've been having some issues with my teeth. Read more... ) I came to realize that this warranted an emergency dentist trip. I took another one of the blessed things and went to sleep.

I'd intended to wake up to the alarm on Saturday morning and check out the place that opened at 9 and took emergencies. Read more... ) I was working on a text-message post about how I was utterly bloody petrified when they came in and proceeded to remove the tooth from my poor face.

It's rather scary how enthusiastic I was about the whole procedure. (Dental details.) )

I was happy enough with the experience that I made an appointment for January 6th to see about the front tooth/the rest of my teeths. I told Mama tonight that I may have actually Found a Dentist, rather than found someone who is going to be working on the teeth.

I presented my prescriptions to fill, went home, changed and collected my fudge, picked up my prescriptions, and went to the potluck with interviewers. [livejournal.com profile] hcolleen showed up. There was introducing to people. I had a Livewire on plenty of ice for breakfast. (I had not been thinking about food in the morning and in any case I had not been dreadfully hungry.) There was party. People had a good time. There was SANTA bingo. There was door prize fun. Puzzle Hands showed up with two, not one, guest in tow. There was mild "WTF" over same; I am expecting that someone, probably Snarky Lady, will take her aside after the fact and mention that hey, um, how about no?

Snarky Lady was having drama with someone. Specifically, one of her minions is an alpha too, and said minion has been bulling around, doing minimum effort for maximum slack, and all sorts of stuff that boil down to bad blood between the two of them, and drama, and gods know what-all. I'm trying to figure a position that involves me staying the fuck out of it and also involves Snarky Lady not bitching to me about it. I'm already trying to get into that position regarding Snarky Lady vs. the Bullpen.

There was cleaning up and going home. When Site Services got there, they were boggling at the amount of cleaning up that had been done. We did a lot. It was good. My fudge was half-eaten. There was lots of food. We got sent home with some. I brought home a lot of random. Since I was part of the set-up and take-down crew, I will be getting paid for that part of things. Yay. Overtime!

I'm feeling very all right. I'm sore, I'm groggy, and I can't wait for this to heal, but omg it feels so much better than it did with that tooth in.

Female TMI, yay )
azurelunatic: Vivid pink Alaskan wild rose. (Default)
I'm a reasonably healthy combination of neophilic and neophobic, which means that I don't always go diving after the latest new idea simply because it's new; I wait for the truly neophilic people to do that, and point and laugh when they encounter the latest weird new issues, then adopt it myself before most people quite know what it is.

One of the most touchy female issues there is (indeed, Connie Willis's science fiction writing considers it the female issue) is the periodic shedding of the uterine lining.

In which the Lunatic starts to discover a heretofore undiscovered way of dealing with same! )

Today, woke up early and did laundry. Yay, laundry. Nasty cramps, but I was still able to walk. I can't afford to miss work, so I took two ibuprofen, crushed a third and held it under my tongue before swallowing (less nasty than I thought it would be, but more stinging and things starting to go numb) and walked to work.

It all got printed out today, and Snarky Lady and I got started working up database. Because OMG PAIN IN THE ASS.

I have jury duty coming up. I also have some 70-odd hours of vacation time due me. I may start slowly taking what I have. If I have 170-odd hours saved up by November, I might just take that whole month off!

Bad: Much loathing for shower, which is distinctly cool, not even mustering up to lukewarm.

Good: Much befuddled delight for Azureus, which is currently supplying me with a 4.5gig serving of Mike Jittlov's finest. Or, at least, that's what I'll have when it's finished. I shall take it off to [livejournal.com profile] trystan_laryssa and [livejournal.com profile] dustraven's for happy burning, provided I find myself a pack of DVD writeables.

Good: Shower was convinced to exude water that was warmer than cold, so rudimentary cleaning has been accomplished. Drying off from this in snug pink nightgown is exceptionally cozy.

Bad: Hair will be exceptionally tangled in the morning, as conditioning was inadvisable under the circumstances.

Confusing: Bitchy Witchy Week claimed to have started this evening. I think. Evidence earlier said yes. Evidence currently says um.

Sleep: Soon.
