Flattened.

Early afternoon:
Vertical and resenting it. The hip woe came back, worse, and standing on it feels very Wrong. I took my cyclobenzaprine and went back to sleep after our shower this morning (and kicked Roomba-Pet out of the bedroom) but it hasn't improved much. But I need food and pills. So I'm upright with one of my canes nearby to limit the amount of hip fuckery. I'd consider going to the ER, but maybe with the amount of Omicron going around, today is probably not the day and tomorrow's not looking good either. (It would have to be someone hauling me there, because this is my driving hip.)

There are high winds outside, so the bins have been slammed into the siding right by my ear repeatedly. Some corvids are having a ball and are soaring around with great abandon.

Later:
Spent most of the rest of the afternoon horizontal. Enough pain to be mostly incapable of napping or focusing on anything more complicated than a miscellaneous Heyer. Chatted with Belovedest's Fishie. Texted various relatives to make sure they knew we were safe from the flooding.

STRAWS

Important surgery recovery milestone: STRAWS. I can use them again! This is delightful and I am very pleased. Last night I tracked down the compatible straw top for my current waterbottle, washed it, and replaced the chute top I'd been using. I hope this will mean better hydration. My current meds setup can result in glue-mouth if I don't drink every time I notice my mouth is slightly dry, and glue mouth sucks.

Alex wandered into the kitchen this morning while I was vigorously shaking hot milk in the Nutella jar. The *blink-blink* was mostly Mornings, because the hot chocolate situation was fairly understandable. This time I did a better job than the last time I did the same operation: I put the half-and-half in first, then poured a little hot water. Last time, I just poured straight-up boiling water into the plastic jar. The jar decided it was time to stop holding its shape and started shrinking weirdly, and I think that then shaking it made the air inside expand too much for the lid to contain properly (see also, jar shrinking weirdly) and then I was wearing enough of it that I did not want to be wearing any of it. No explosions or spray this time, so I call that a win even though there was just a little spot of spread left on the jar after I'd done enough shaking.

Bullet journaling: finished moving my December and 2021 lists over to the January and 2022 versions. Lots of tracing the headers that I'd used a specific font inspiration for. Flagrant use of the stencils I'd uncovered. A lot of sparkly gel pens. [personal profile] amberfox asked last night what the gel pens were, and the answer is, first: nothing special, just there are a lot of them and I paid money for them, and I just knew that if I attempted to replace them, they'd reappear and I'd be medium-size mad that I now have too many sparkly gel pens, and less money. Specifically, they are at the price point that they are made cheaply and the experience of getting the cap off the first time reflects that. The quality of the ink doesn't seem to be (too) crappy, but honestly I think these are par for the course for a $20-ish set of 100-ish pens off Amazon. That said, the brand is REAEON but I bet there is a manufacturer that does gel pens and a couple hundred ambitious companies commission packs with their brand name upon them.

There's an LMB discord and it's great. There's also a discord for https://archiveofourown.org/works/20644262/ and it is unhinged in the best possible way and I get so many memes from there. I'm extremely far back in the Yuletide discord, which is as expected at this time of year.

Took my pills before noon! Yay!

I have been looking for a specific set of gel pens for several months now. It turns out they were right in sight in a transparent pink box under the Yulegoat. (Of course, trying to get it down caused chaos.) Brains. It wasn't labeled and it had fallen out of indexing.

Since it's a new month and a new year, it's time I set up various bullet journal pages. I'm learning how to use one of my desk lamps and the glass cat protector as a light table, which is something I did not see myself doing, but here we are...

Ev was supposed to return on Sunday, but her flight was canceled. That left her in California a day longer than planned. It was too snowy to risk driving to the airport, so Ev took the bus from the airport to a much more reachable destination.

* call from doctor: too snowy out for the 8am & 9am patients; could I come in early? Because they were going to be leaving early for safety. Yes, we could roll out ASAP.

The drive was very snowy and we were behind a van with a bumper sticker along the lines of "The closer you get, the slower I drive" which was perfect for the conditions.

* trip to doctor: the access to the parking garage was blocked, so Belovedest dropped me off nearby and I tiptoed through the snow. My warmest easily accessible footwear? My woolly slippers.

* pick up Ev (a little later): she arrived at the station just as we were leaving the parking area. She was cold by the time we got there but now she knows where things are. The bus from the airport was very convenient.

* unplanned detour to Brown & Haley: Belovedest's favorite are the grahams. Ev's favorite are the cashew roca. Ev's mom sent a regifted chocolate box from work, which was a large amount of decent chocolate but still hilarious in that it was obviously a corporate thank-you gift due to the center dark chocolate bar being the gifter's logo.

* Costco (including Near Miss with Pickup): the parking lot was a mess and someone in a very large pickup wasn't looking where they were backing

* Safeway (including The Honkening): the floor by the door was an absolute puddle from all the snow tracked in. When we were leaving, someone nearly backed into us and I yelled at Belovedest like they were playing the Untitled Goose Game until they hit the horn. We escaped unhit.

* home (fitting things in fridge): a great miracle happened here

Went to go get fasting labs this morning. Unfortunately the scatterbrained NP had not ordered the labs (the ones that she wants me to do a few days before the appointment). The appointment is canceled because she won't be in the office the day it was scheduled. I waited to see if she would be able to order the labs between patients while I was in the office and fasting, but she was not. Belovedest hauled me off to has cheezburger.

Further update on original pool: I went on a wild goose quest to get pool noodles to shove in the inflatable ring instead of patching the holes. I tried that. It did not work like I wanted it to, because the place I set the pool is not flat enough, and the slit in the ring to insert the pool noodles was on the downhill side.

A slightly smaller pool was on the way when I saw a thing on Craigslist about an inflatable hot tub that had been posted some seven minutes earlier. I texted the guy and we arranged a time. I gathered up my muscle and we went off! Belovedest helped the guy empty the hot tub. I hugged the hot tub lid. Next step in that adventure is making sure there is a place on the deck large enough to fit it.

4th of July was surprisingly quiet until it started getting dark, at which point it started to sound like a bag of microwave popcorn. Escape Calico took her chill pill (actually one of my sleeping pills, since we share the same size tablet and hers were a little old) with bad grace, but took it. The fireworks did not stop until well after midnight.

In contradiction of the law... )

Belovedest's siblings declared Games; Belovedest went and picked up A Feast of Meats. I made room in the fridge to fit all of it. The cucumber salad went in the door somewhat precariously. The tiny cheese buns went in sideways, since they don't leak. I looked up a recipe and most of them call for tapioca flour. Hmmmm.

All the winter-holiday decorations have shuffled back downstairs, courtesy Belovedest. I helped wind up the tree ribbons and find boxes. Alex came out just as Belovedest was going downstairs, so Yellface was demanding her treat and wasn't sure why she wasn't getting it (because Belovedest wanted to not have to worry about keeping cats away from each other's throats while negotiating stairs with boxes) and yelled until Belovedest finished the final trip downstairs. Alex tried to reason with her, telling her that she'd get two treats for being patient. "Cats don't understand marshmallows!" I called from the living room.

Belovedest decided it was haircut o'clock yesterday, so we found a space in the basement where I could perch on one of the medium-tall bar chairs and they could sit in front of me and I buzzed the back and sides of their hair down to velvet fuzz. I left the top, to see if that look was all right and also if that might flag them just a little less cishet.

We did a prescription and Safeway run on Saturday, and a Costco run yesterday. The latter was a bit brutal, because it was both peak (but still not needing a line to get inside) and we had just run out of flour. Which meant that we needed a real cart, to hold the flour. ("Sire! I will build a labyrinth to house the regards!") So we were either using a scooter and a real cart, or just a real cart, and they were all out of scooters. That was ... wearing.

Wake up
Check phone (unhurried)
Drink water
Start toast for breakfast
stack and start the dishwasher
Create sandwich
Eat sandwich at computer, take pills
Post an old entry
Start typing up Monday, which was a doozy

I pray thee, miss, have we been introduced? I would not presume upon the bounds of courtesy and claim false acquaintance; truly, thy countenance looks passing familiar to me, and yet I cannot recall how we have met, if met indeed we have.
